Question Bed Extender hop

Hey guys, I got a little lull in my workday...actually I don't feel like doing working

I was just curious as to whether anyone's bed extender is bouncing up and down. It is locked in and really when I move it myself there is not a whole lot of play, but there's enough for me to hear it in the cab. I removed it to see if it really is the extender and my suspicions were correct, no noise. I drove up to Baltimore this weekend and I think those darn roads and D.C.'s I think the noise has gotten worse.

BTW I have a Line-X, but I don't see how that would matter

Anyone have this problem? how did you fix it?

Thanks for the info guys

I'm not sure how thick the tubing is, but what about pipe wrap? You know, the stuff you put on your water pipes in your home to prevent them from sweating? It comes in various sizes and might be a perfect cheap-o solution. I know it would work.. Just a thought.

Ok, I think I have figured out where this rattling is. Apparently it is not the bed extender, because I took it out and I still heard it. I had done this before and I didn't think I heard it.

Anyway, I decided to ride in the back of my truck while my wife drived. Yeah, I know that's dangerous, but it's even worse with her driving . The rattling is coming from either the latches on the tailgate or the cables (support thingys) for the tail gate.

Reason A: The latch or something near the latch may be loose.

Reason B: I drove with the tailgate down and did not notice it. There is play in the cables because it has to swivel. Either the cable itself is smacking against the inner sides of the tailgate or there is too much play in the "swivels"

I going to beat this d@mn thing if its the last thing I do.

Anyone else have this?

I know things are going to rattle especially in the bed, but this little noise annoy me.

Hey Zoltan..... LOL... I had my wife drive me around in the bed about a month ago for the same reason. I even dropped the gate to see if the noise would continue, but same as yours, it disappeared. My solution?..drum roll please... I just twisted the small rubber stoppers on the rear of the bed so that when the gate closes against them it would be a tighter fit. Sounds simple but the noise is gone. Man, did it feel good to open the slider again and not hear that annoying squeak! Good luck.

I have that noise too! I noticed it the other day and just about killed myself trying to figure it out while driving. Maybe I need a wife to drive...yeah right, I don't need a wife right now...what was I thinking.

I also thought it was the bed extender bouncing around, or even the seatbelt buckles/hangers hitting the walls. So what is the conclusion? Is it the tensioner bars inside the tailgate? I hate this banging noise! Make it stop!

I meant to do some experimenting this weekend but never got around to it. I will try messing with it this week and keep you posted.

hot on the trail

My sniffer is going and I am hot on the trail. I jerry-rigged the tailgate support cables by shoving some packing styrofoam between the tailgate and the side of the bed to see if it was the cables rattling. I think that may be the problem. But, it is hard to tell because now I noticed that whenever I shut a door and sometimes when I hit a bump that the headliner vibrates and the dome light makes a rattling noise. Like it is vibrating against the roof. I will definitely have the dealer take care of this when I go back in for my 3rd brake light replacement.

With the weather getting cooler I guess things are starting to poke there little heads more.

Just thought I would let you all know I am still working it and I still have my sanity

Thanks for listening
