In for Service

Long time reader - first time post

Just wanted to share my 2004 F150 service stories. Love the truck - but it never met a gas station or service bay it didn't like.
So far - serviced for :

Power back window rattle - installed window padding and it still rattles if outside temp below 75 degrees or wet outside

Limp mode - reflashed newest PCM update - fixed

Cab shake - they put 400 miles on it in 3 days to conclude it was "body boom" caused by SCREW cab having windows down 3 inches or less

Brake squeel and dust - currently in shop this AM - service tech said that there is an update concerning this problem and replacement pads are the solution - but haven't heard back yet today. Said also that it may not be covered under warrenty - even though it only has 5900 miles on it? Does that sound right?

As always - thank everyone for making F150 online a great tool and community for F150 owners.

Mine is at the dealer now for limp mode. Diagnostic code 2135 (I think) for the throttle body position switch was my prob. They reflashed last week, but then the truck went back to limp.

There is a bulletin from Ford regarding the replacement of the entire throttle assembly. Call them NOW and see if they can get it replkaced while they have your truck.

Matt brakes are guaranteed from Ford for 12,000 miles. They are a normal wear item but first 12 are warranty for problems. Now after 12,00 if your anti lock has a problem that is brake failure related they would be coverd. I had a 96 aerostar with 34,000 miles that they replaced and pads and rotors and rear drums for a anti lock problem

Update on brakes - Dealership service says that "there is an update on this problem coming soon, hopefully before the end of the year they (Ford) will have a solution." Until then they grinded the pads (?) and used some squeel stop on the brakes. I will pick it up tomorrow and see for myself.

The grinding of the pads is no real problem if they figure out the solution quickly. As for the squeel stop that will rub off and the squeel will be back in a few short drives most likely.

I think the brake recall or service bulletin was a misunderstanding a lot of people had. Ford has one out for the expedition, not the F150 as of yet. Now..the new style pads for the expedition will work on the F150, BUT...and theres always a BUT, you have to change all of the pads and the rotors have to be changed also.I was trying to get mine covered under warranty and they told me they could change the pads, and use the same ones that came on the truck but couldnt at this time replace with the new style pads and rotors under warranty. Lets hope the TSB comes out soon.

Newest trouble - went to pick up my truck this AM and was showed a $50 invoice for the work done - the grinding of the pads and the stop squeel greese. I then spoke with service manager about how the truck has 5900 miles on it and I should not have to pay a dime because I never ok'ed any non-warranty work done to the vehicle. He then said that this one time he will eat the charges - but next time the pads are not a warranty item. No good day or come back and see us. They even forgot where they parked my truck. I found it 15 minutes later parked in a dirt lot with mud up both sides of the vehicle. If it wasn't for bad service - I would get none at all.

Matt sorry about the rotten service you got, but I would have taken the truck back in and told them to wash it because that is not the way I left it.
