Never, ever change tranny fluid?

That's what Ford says on their commercial posted on ford.ca (Canada Ford site). They say it's a sealed transmission and that means you never have to change the fluid/filter...ever. Can they really expect the transmission fluid to last 200,000 + miles?

I saw a simliar poster in the service area when I picked up my truck a few weeks ago. I remember laughing to myself about it. I think I will still have it changed around 100k just to be safe.

I read that too and was kind of surprised to see the same type of bolt on pan as any other car or truck has. Sure doesn't look like its "sealed".

I have posted some questions about this lifetime AT fluid recently and not too many people including the dealers know about this. It is a fact--but you have to know that this applies to the 4R70E AT, which is supposed to be the trans in the new "04's. I believe the Heritage models have the 4R70W, which are not included in this lifetime fluid no-change application. This sealed transmission deal is also confusing...I was told by a dealer sevice rep. that if the trans didn't have the dipstick it is sealed and the no-change fluid is in it, but according to the official specifications, the 4R70E is in all new style '04's and that lifetime fluid is part of the deal. You can't find anything in the owners manual (mine was printed in "03) that really says anything definite. My AT has a dipstick, even so, I will argue that since it's the new style F-150, that it has the 4R70E AT, therefore it should have the lifetime fluid.

Actually, if you have the new body style 2004 F-150 with the 5.4L V8, it has the 4R75E, like mine. They upgraded the tranny to handle the extra power/torque. It used to be called 4R70E. I think the 4.6L V8 still uses the 4R70E.
