Angry Rotor Problem?

Truck is 3 weeks old and while installing splash guards Saturday noticed left front rotor groved pretty bad, and right front starting to grove. I cannot tell the wife since she wanted the Chevy, and all I am going to hear is I told you so. Our last Ford (conversion van) eat front brakes and rotors every 15k, along with 3 transmissions in 112K and a steering box. The 5.4 was great with no problems.

Yeah, my 04 has 4700 miles on it and just last week the dealer shaved both front rotors. Its still within spec, but I'm sure the current rotors won't see 10k.

Rotors

manOtools do you request new rotors? What did Ford say was the cause? Looks to me like a dragging caliper? I think I am going to insist on new front rotors, if I had 40K and they were doing the first brake job then turning the rotors would be OK, but in 3 weeks.

You had better take it in for warranty service if the rotors are already grooving. I’ve had my 04 F150 since 10-24-03 and all 4 rotors are smooth.

Mine warped the rotors at 10,400(turned them), warped them again at 13,400(turned them again)and warped them a third time at 15,500(replaced rotors and pads). Have about 16,500 on it now and so far so good. Good luck and this has been the only real problem I have had with the truck.

Hopefully this will help someone. I noticed my brakes were squeaking way too much for a new truck. (Before my 5K service) I mentioned the squeaky brakes when I took it in for my 5K service. Service tech told me that these trucks are really sensitive to tire dressing and scored the rotors for me. Haven't really had a problem since. I stopped really putting tire dressing on. The one time I did, I just put a little in the rag and wiped the tire. (I used to use the tire foam crap and it threw itself all over in there)
They have been fine since. Actually a lot less brake dust is going over the wheels as well which is a bonus for me. Anyways, just one experience. Good luck either way!
