Paint bubble

My truck will be going in on Monday to have the passenger side of the bed repainted after finding a 1/4 inch bubble in the paint. The bubble just appeared, and the truck was built last November in Norfolk. Anyone else having this issue with their truck? Hopefully this is very isolated. I'm thinking if no one else has this problem yet, it will be a one shot deal. There are a couple of noticeable specks in the paint in the area that the bubble developed, so I'm thinking they didn't prep the area very well. Mine is a Toreadore Red SCab.

I am having a similiar problem with my brand new 2004 F150

I just bought my new F150 XLT a week and a half ago and I noticed this evening a small chip in the paint just near the drivers side rearview mirror. It looks like a paint defect like a small bubble that chipped away.

My question is can I take it back to the dealer and have them fix it? The dealership seems like a great group of people but I am wondering if they are just gonna tell me too bad you bought it that way...

Anyone ever experience anything like this before and what was the outcome?

I love my truck I just about fell over when I noticed the bubble/chip in the paint.

My truck never came with any bubbles or imperfections in the paint. I would take it back to the dealership and ask if they would fix it up for you. If I was helped like that I know I would have a dealership for life

I took my truck to a different Ford dealer than the one I bought from. The selling dealership was 200 miles away and has changed ownership. The local dealership took one look at the bubble and asked when I wanted it fixed without an argument. It probably helped that the bubble was still intact, there was no way it could have been caused by debris or other accidental contact.

I also pointed out that the paint on the wheel molding is chipping off very badly on the leading edges. They said they would talk to Ford about it, but did not think that would be covered under warranty.

About a month or so ago I noticed I had a bubble in my paint on the pass. side rear quarter panel right below the FX4 sticker. Took it to the dealer, they said no sweat, gave me a free rental and repainted the entire quarter panel.

Hey there Fordcountry, make sure you tell them you want the paint to match. There should be absolutely no problem with a dealer agreeing to fix it as long as it's not something YOU did.
BUT the problem is with the toreador red, it's one tricky color too match. It takes three different paint mixes to find the one that'll actually match what's on your truck. I have this from a very reliable source, my best friend who is an award winning painter
for some 25+ years now, and i went to him for an explanation as to why when you go to the site of a hard tonneau cover dealer you don't see the option for the toreador red to be prepainted.
You'll see every color BUT that one. They'll sell it to you as primed
but you have to seek out the painter. We even had to make all three mixes to find the right one so i could have a bottle of touch up paint. It turned out too be the second of the three mixes was
the match. that's why i've decided when it comes to getting the hard tonneau i'm going with the flat black undercover. I don't need that much red,the black will match my bumper pads and stuff

Thanks for the heads-up. I always worry about paint match on red vehicles, especially metalic. This dealership is a high-volume dealership with a good reputation for their body work, so one would hope they have the "special recipe" for toreador.

Drillsgtjra, that is the exact location of this bubble, passenger side below the 4X4 sticker. Sounds like a Ford robot needed some adjustment.

I wonder if there will be a pattern here. FYI...my bubble was the size of a dime.

I've been avoiding posting a follow-up on this thread because every time I start, my blood starts boiling and I start typing hyper negative on Ford. I just got my truck back tonight after dropping it off on Monday. Why would it take a week to fix a paint job you ask? Because it takes a week to have the entire passenger side of the bed cut-off and new metal welded on. That's right, the bubble was actually rust from the inside of the panel. It seems as though someone at Ford forgot to install a plug in the top of the panel where sound deadener is injected and water eventually worked its way in.

I picked-up my $38,000 truck tonight and found the finish looked like it was sprayed by a Wagner airless with its orange peel and sags, and the tailgate (which was the only door on the truck that shut well) now has to be slammed to get it to shut. They didn't even bother to repainting under the bed rail where they redid the spotwelding.

Unfortuntely the shop was closed, so now I get to stew over the three day weekend. I had to blow off a little on this board.

Other than the leaky sunroof, poor fitting doors, drivetrain vibration, body rusting out at 8 months, and steering nibble, this truck is perfect.

I would be looking into getting a lemon law attorney. That is way too many problems for a new vehicle.

My Black FX4 Scab is 2 weeks old. Today I found a spot on the hood about half the size of a dime where the paint is curled up and peeling off....im taking her in on Tuesday to have something done about this....

hmm

Fordcountry,

Took me 7 years to buy another Ford after my 92 Mustang GT. It had a defect in the paint on the passenger side window pillar, and had to be repainted. Long story short, they did 4 crappy paint jobs in the course of 6 months, with the last one having tons of runs/peels, and orange-peeling. I had to get an attorney and Ford bought my car back (not without a fight...they wanted to paint it a fifth time) the day before it was scheduled to go to court.
The lemon law around here states that your car has to either be less than a year old or less than 12k miles...AND it they have had to fail at fixing the SAME problem 3 times...AND it either effects the value or the safety of the vehicle. There are usually other stipulations to lemon laws like 'car has been in shop XXX number of days', etc. I would go to your local library and look up the law in your state to see what your rights are...the lawyers here were clueless and told me I didn't have a case. The third lawyer I tried said "you don't have a case"...then I actually READ him the law. We had a meeting, and the rest is history (I won).
