Question Anybody Install A Trailer Brake Controller?

Has anyone installed a brake controller in their 2004 F-150? What type of controller and where did you locate it?

I have a Predator controller (Prodigy clone) in my other truck, but want something that I can integrate better (perhaps the ashtray?) like the BrakeSmart controller.

Any other suggestions for locating so as not to "ruin" the appearance of the interior?

Thanks for any assistance.

Not sure what version you have but in my truck with the column shifter there is a bottom tray type thingy under the ash tray. I'm sure you could put it in there. The tray thingy pulls right out. Not sure how handy you are but I'm sure you could fabricate something for that, even if you went to a plastics shop.

Just an idea.

I installed my Prodigy controller just to the left of the sterring colume. I did not have to drill any holes. It is almost out of sight.

put it in the glove box unless you need to do adjustments to it all the time. Usually you set it and don't need to adjust it so that's what I would do

now that there is one available in the 2005 SuperDuty, there would obviously be Ford replacement/retrofit parts available.

Maybe consider that to maintain a "stock" look.

papa737,

Do you have any pictures of your install? I used heavy duty velcro to fasten it to the metal plate next to the brake release lever, but I'm uncomfortable with it as it moves around a little.

Thanks for the picture Zacky! That appears to be a good spot.

usfishin, what kind of controller do you have and how did you route the wiring from the glove box?

And papa737, I would also (along with George FX4) like to see a photo of your install if you can.

Thanks to everyone who responded, I am glad I asked, I just can't bring myself to do anything that might make the interior look poorly! I love this truck!

Thanks again!
