Got wavey distorted windshield replaced, again
Got wavey distorted windshield replaced, again
Long post alert!
I was having a problem with wavy lines in my windshield on a month old '04 F-150 supercab. You can read my original post here.
The dealer replaced the windshield once with an OEM Carlite. The replacement was as bad as the original. I called the dealer back about it and they put me in touch directly with the glass guy they farm their glass out to.
I went to his shop yesterday. They yanked out the glass and then set four different new windshields in place for me to check until I was satisfied with the view. The one that looked the best, not perfect, but the best of what he had was a Pinkington windshield. I had tested two other Carlites and a PPG windshield. They installed the Pinkington. As it turned out, I only notice the distortion when setting still and actively looking for it. While driving I do not seem to notice it at all. This was a huge improvement from the last two windshields that would cause me to get mild headaches after an hour of driving.
The glass guy said that they have a lot of problems with the Carlite windshields on the new '04 pickups. He also said that the European glass is of much better optical quality, but windshields from Europe are not available yet for the new F-150s.
