Update for week of 10/25/2004 - Part 2
UGH!!! Just got another call. The new transmission for my truck didn't arrive yesterday, and it's still not there as I type this. I asked where they think it might be. It's probably somewhere between Milwaukee and Detriot, but since that isn't much distance who knows where or what happened. So, now I'm not going to be getting my truck back until next week sometime. There's not really much I can do about it. I certainly don't want it to be a rush job when the new tranny does come in. I have a lot of patience (except when it comes to Microsoft software - sucks!), but I will run out of patience eventually with this.
Thanks SilvrDrgn for keeping us updated, the dealership I'm dealing with is also helpful so far but I think its because I told them I don't want the truck back until they either fix the problem or give me my money back. So far, they have replaced all of my tires and driveshaft but still has the vibe. They currently have a whole new rear-end on order so I'm anxious to see what that does for the truck. I know they want the truck fixed quickly because they put me in an F-150 rental and I told them I refuse to turn it in until my truck is fixed and I also threatened them with a DSB if they tell me that its a characteristic of the new trucks. I had a conversation with the service tech and told him they had better come up with something better than that because if it is a characteristic of the new trucks they better start advertising it. I will also keep everyone updated. For those of you who don't have any vibration problems and are complaining about all the posts relating to vibes, then why the hell are you reading this right now. For those of us who do have a serious issue let us utilize this great tool known as a forum to hopefully find a fix and to ease our minds that Ford is making every effort to produce a quality $36,000 truck and not charge us $36,000 for a vibrator.
The only reason I read these posts is because I can't believe the problems some of you guys are having with these trucks. It really makes me realize how fortunate I am to not have to deal with any of these issues on my truck.
What really bothers me is the difficulty some of you are having in getting your dealers to even aknowledge that there is even a problem. Not the way to generate repeat business.
Keep the pressure on those dealers and on Ford. They had no problem selling you guys the truck, so they better be ready to stand behind what they sell!

Yes keep us posted on the transmission replacement. This may have saved me going through with the DSB process. I'm still waiting to hear from the DSB on a time and date for my hearing.

Update for week of 11/01/2004 - Part 1
While my truck's been in the shop (still is), I had been driving my "other half's" car ('98 Ford Contour). That thing needed new tires and balancing all the way around very badly. Took that in and had it done. However, since we'd be down to one vehicle out of three (the only one we had left was her Mom's car), I needed something to drive. The folks at Soerens gave me a 2004 Explorer to drive around in at no charge. We've since got the car back, and it drives much better now. I've still got the Explorer. It's OK, but it's no F-150!
Normally, people have to rent a car from them if they need one. However, because of all the trouble we're going through to get my truck fixed, the service department is paying my rental fees for the Explorer.
As of 8:50 AM this morning, there's no word on the transmission for my truck. I suspect I'll hear something from them this afternoon or tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted, and you're welcome!

Update for week of 11/01/2004 - Part 2
Got a call from the service desk at the dealership shortly before 11:00 AM this morning. The transmission has been replaced, and they say it's ready for me to pick up. They didn't mention anything about test driving it. I guess I'll find out when I get there this afternoon to try it myself. I'll make sure I post another update later today with the results of this work.

Wonderful! The new transmission did the trick!! The vibration that my truck had at 65 MPH in overdrive is now completely gone!!! WOO HOO!
Finally, I can enjoy my truck again!
I hope I don't jinx myself, but I will still be keeping track of this new one over the course of the next few thousand miles. The last thing I want is for this problem to come back!
Thanks to everyone for the encouragement, and for "listening" to this incredible adventure!
