New guy with a question.

Hi Guys. I'm another newbie. Got a new FX4 scab a few months ago. Its awesome. I had my 96GT for 7 years so its a big change . I'm no longer eye level with tractor trailor tires. Anyway. I've been looking at this web site for a few months and so far i've got a Magnaflow cat-back and also a Skyjacker lift kit. The lift kit is one like the Daystar. I took it to a shop that does suspension lifts and etc and they told me that they could not get the springs compressed. The guy said they've never seen springs before that were that stiff. Is there any special Spring compressor out there that i need to do this. I know there are some that have done this themselves. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Coot, there are some guys on here that have done this themselves. I am not sure what they used, but I took my FX4 to an off-road shop to have my daystar installed and they had no problem compressing the springs. I would try a different shop. I don't know a whole lot about suspensions and such but it sounds to me that if they can't even compress some springs then you don't want to go there. If all fails, I would take it to a place that does work on large vehicles i.e. moving trucks, work trucks. This is where I had my alignment done.

Hope this helps and welcome to the board.

I compressed mine with a rental (cheap) pair from Autozone. If you went to a suspension shop and they cant compress these springs GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. They are not a good shop to deal with. Any 4 wheel drive shop should have the equipment to do this kind of work. Good luck with your lift and welcome to the site.

Thank You for the Welcome everyone and thanks for the advice. I've been searching the forums about the leveling kit. I was thinking i rented those compresors from Autozone for my 66 Mustang maybe they'd work for the truck. There is another shop here in town that sells and installs 4x4 stuff. So i may check them out and see. I bought black step bars from them and a Westin Bull bar, so maybe they'll hook me up. Nice to meet u all. Great web site with a ton of info .Thanks agian. Sorry to bring up the subject about the leveling kit.

Coot, you should check out Autospring’s leveling kit. The 1 ½” kit gives you 2 ¼” lift and you don’t loose the soft factory ride. Easy to install too, no spring compression needed. They cost about $125. bucks.
