I thought forums like this were where we came to share these things and work on solutions.
I understand. I'm just wondering if there's actually a "performance" issue here or if right now, it's just a visual thing...

Thanks,

The breaks stop the truck and there is no peddle pulsation or vibration...so yes I just SEE the grooves. To me if there is an abnormal wear problem, that is a performance problem...but they are not getting deeper by the day or anything, so i am not loosing sleep over it.

well as the thread said i compared mine to a 2004 with 14,000 miles and mine are allready grooved as bad as those where seems odd. Well it went in this morning for new power slider (factory warranty). They called me this afternoon and said they wanted to look at brakes now MMM funny thing since brakes are a safety issue this should have been done last week while it was there three days.Hey im not condeming ford heck i work for them but this is not my first new truck and squeek and grooves are not normal at 5000 miles expecially if you have it on the rear rotors.80% of stopping power is on the front.

I broke 10,500 and noticed the same thing . Weird it brakes fine and no pulsating . I wouldn't buy that grooves are normal on rotors after 5k even 10k it seems odd . I'm gonna call the dealer myself .

I looked at service mgrs. truck again with 14k on it and his rear rotors are grooveing to. I agree this is a great braking system stops on a dime but the cost to keep it this great will double if it wears this fast.Looks as if this could bring 30 to 40k brake jobs.My 99 150 had 60k on them and stooped fine when i traded it, my 03 150 had 17k when i traded and rotors where relativly smooth.I'm lucky to be able to do my own brakes but for some they will have to pay someone.

2004 F150 Brake Rotors

Sorry to have found this forum so late, but here's what I know:

We felt pulsation when braking below 15 mph. I also noticed grooved rotors when I had tires rotated. Only 20,000 on the truck, but discs looked like 60-70,000 miles.

Ford service manager said there's a known "concern" involving pulsating brakes - actually two concerns:

Rack and Pinon out of calibration (mine was OK).

Warped Rotors (BINGO!) Refinishing them fixed the pulsation. But I wonder if I should have insisted on new rotors?

Ask your service advisor about TSB 04-15-10A.

I haven't found anything about this online, but will keep looking.

Hope this helps someone else.

SR

My dad's truck got all the pads and rotors replaced for free because of warped and grooved rotors.

I HAVE BEEN POSTING ON THIS SUBJECT FOR A WHILE AND HAD NO RESPONSE.
I HAVE TAKIN MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES OVER THE GROOVES IN THE REAR ROTORS.
THEY HAVE TWO GROOVE IN THE OUTER PART OF THE ROTOR. ITS THE SAME ON BOTH SIDES
MY DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I USED TIRE SHINE AND IT CAUSES DIRT TO BUILD UP AND GROOVE THE ROTORS.
YES, I TOOK MY TRUCK OUT OF THAT DEALERSHIP VERY QUICKLY.
THERE IS NO GROOVING THAT IS NORMAL WEAR.
THIS IS AN INDICATION THAT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
I SEE THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE SAYING THIS IS NORMAL.
I'M SURE IN TIME WE WILL FIND OUT WHAT THE REAL ISSUE IS. UNTIL THEN I WILL CONTINUE TO CUT GROOVES IN THEM UNTIL THEY REPLACE THEM UNDER WARRANTY.
OH YEA THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 5346 MILES ON IT

Tire shine is not the cause of grooved rotors from dirt. You may slide thru a stop sign from it but no grooving LOL .Your getting dirt every time the truck rolls. RUST if it sits a few days what does it do to the rotors. Well had mine turned stopped squeek for about 600 miles and it's coming back. Not as bad though but the rotors are not as grooved as they were at 500 miles. I think these new pads are agressive and we are going to see it alot. All we can do is wait on some premium pads and rotors or till Ford will do some thing a little different. Mr BIG no one wants to degrade Ford and complain but here maybe between all of us we can find the fix it's out there i hope. Also looking at the thickness of the rotors i believe Ford intended on them being turned a few times . I had 60,000 on my 99 150 when i traded it in 03 and it had it's original brakes. Love going fast but stop easy .

I guess I got lucky, because my rotors are not grooved. Had my truck since 10-24-03 and the brakes are perfect.

At 22k, mine are definitely grooved. They make noise too..

I'm thinking my 99 wasn't such a bad truck, even with over 100k.

My rotors are as smooth as a baby's behind at 11,500 miles but my brakes have been squeaking for about 2k miles. When I rotated my tires I cleaned the calipers and such with brakleen and this did help with the squeaking. I really think that the squeak is caused by all of the metallic brake dust that gets into the calipers and slides. I plan to pull the front pads and put that lube on the caliper slides and that red anti squeak on the back of the pads. It has always worked before on other vehicles.

Odd some are and some aren't . Cincy your idea of a personal brake service is a great idea.

what about installing a break dust shield. Maybe this would help and eventually stop the squeaking??!?!?!

Dust shields only eliminate wheels from getting dirty. In turn is keeping more dust at you pads. I can keep my wheels clean but the squeek is not cool.
