F-150 pretty quick

I know most of you have stated many times the 2004 F-150 is a dog as far as acceleration goes. Last night my partner pulled one over who then decided to run. I just happened to be behind it when it ran. Of course I floored it and was slightly gaining on it. I definately had better accel than it, but not much. This lasted about 200 ft then I called off the chase. Not worth killing someone for a stupid traffic ticket.

I was in an old Crown Vic, but overall I'd say this F-150 had pretty good acceleration. My partner in the new Crown Vic, who also happens to be a Ford fanatic, was a less surprised than I was. His car has much more accel than mine.

What style was it? Extended cab, Reg Cab, what engine? Also, what year is your Crown Vic and what engine is in it? Just trying to get a comparison !!!

when i first test drove the new f150 i thought it was crap. I test drove 2 others and they were all dogs. I just recently bought an fx4 because i decided speed wasnt as important as the other elements of the truck. Funny thing is, this truck performs amazing. Totally stock truck and its REALLY strong. Im really pleased with this truck now.

It was an extended cab. Had a couple of go fast sickers on the rear bumper. As far as what I had in my car, we only have the 4.6 but from what I was told they are a little quicker than the standard engines.

yeah police cruisers get special setups, suspension, engine tune, etc......at least they used to. Dunno what they are putting on some of these new impalas and intrepids.

they may be a dog off the line, but I find once you are cruising these things accelerate pretty well.

At Easter, I went up North to see the inlaws. Highway 11 in Ontario if anyone knows it.

2 lanes, curves, lakes, trees... typical Northen Ontario.

I was following an FX4 supercab. We were in the twin-cam Focus.

I could not keep up to that guy. We would round a bend and he would floor it and F**k right off and I wouldnt catch him until he got stuck behind an 18-wheeler.

Now that I have an '04, I know firsthand how well they accelerate while at highway speeds. To me this is where the 5.4 really shines.

Iv'e noticed that once the truck finds the power band it will perform.I have a 5.4 FX4 and it pulls ok off the line but really pulls hard at about 3000 rpm take you to 70 mph and up very quickly. With the varible timeing you feel it thru out also. My other trucks never ran this good. The fact allways coming to me is i'm moving a 5000 lb truck.Like to have this engine in my 67 mustang wow what a tire burner that would be 3200lb.

From what I hear, the 1714 tuner from SuperChips makes the '04 F-150s even better for performance. I bought one of those, but I had to return it because it needed an upgrade in order to work with the updated PCM in my truck. Can't wait to get it back!

I used to own the DOHC focus, and it felt quick, and while it was more nimble in turns, it is nowhere near as fast as my F150.
The Focus DOHC was severly lacking in torque, but I always felt it would rev better than any car I'd driven...
The funny thing about this new v8 is that I think it'll rev (gain rpm's) faster than my focus did...

Not really on topic but....

Being the son of a retired cop, I'd never run from one but putting that aside don't you guys generally run the tag when you pull up or remember enough to run it later? Makes running pretty stupid unless the car is stolen.

Or the tag is stolen, or there is no tag, or there is no owner listing for the tag, or the guy lives far away, or the owner wasn't driving the truck, or it was a fake tag (very common), or the police simply don't have the manpower to hunt down drivers for minor violations when no court would convict him because you can't prove he was driving. No pursiut policies suck, but it does keep things a little safer.
