sure its not the painted stuff under the hood? Mine took about three weeks to finally burn off.

I too noticed it.... haven't smelled it in a few days though.
I think I'm concentrating on the vibe too much

Got my truck Monday and its parked in a garage. I smell it after driving and pulling the garage and closing the door. I am 99% sure its just the paint on the motor and/or transmission. Does resemble antifreeze though.

I smell it sometimes. My truck has 2500 miles on it so I don't think it's burning off the engine. Do you guys have the trailer tow package? I'm wondering if it's the coolant for the tranny because I've checked the engine cooling over pretty closely. Also, sometimes when I drive for a while and park, I hear a hissing under the hood. There's never been any visible leaks. I'm wondering if there is some kind of vent valve on one of the coolant systems that could be causing this.

I've debated taking it in to have this checked, but my wife insists she doesn't smell it. She says she only smells leather. See now you have me paranoid too....

Question

I too smell something with my FX4 2004. I purchased it 2 weeks ago, and now have 900 miles on it. I wasn't sure if it smelled like paint, rubber, or coolant. One thing is for sure, it does smell. I called the dealer, and they said it's "probably" paint. If anyone figures this one out, please let me know.

I'm also finding that the truck makes a "crunch" sound when braking quickly, and sometimes when taking off. I have a supercab. The sound seems to be comming from somewhere behind the passenger seat in the supercab. It may be under the truck, but I have yet to figure this one out as well. Any idea's??

Thanks much.

yes, i have the tow package and yes it's most def anti-freeze. it's usually still dripping (not on the ground but in the system) when i smell it too. the truck has 1800 ish miles and has smelled like this for quite some time.

What does this mean?

Its dripping, but its not dripping on the ground, its dripping "in the system"? What is the "system"?

Is this your first vehicle?

This post is very confusing.

the system being the radiator and all the hoses through which the anti-freeze travels.

"Is this your first vehicle?"

i counted 20 something of them before i turned 26. i'm 38 now, have three cars presently and go through them on average about once every 12 to 18 months. so, no. then again, this truck was my first american vehicle in almost 20 years!

I've had my truck since Oct., but went and drove one exactly like mine the other day to compare rides. While driving it I asked my salesman, "Do you smell anti freeze, it smells like anti freeze". He said yes it does kinda smell like anti freeze. This was after about 15 minutes of driving. I never have smelled any on mine though.

Well thr Dealer tryed the traditional stuff to check for a leak..Pressure test and tighten up the hosed... to no avail...
I put a big sponge in beside the anti freeze coolant reservoir
under the valance at the air intake for the fan and this anti freeze smell has gone away... It seems that it is come from the reservior when the engine is heating up and in turns... I alway have the exterior air coming into my truck so it was pulling it in from there.....
Don't laff it works....
lol
just a slight design flaw
