Hard Seats
Hard Seats
Hello All,
First post here, so forgive my ignorance if this question is an a FAQ somewhere. ļ
I am thinking about getting a 04 SuperCrew f150. I am looking at the Fx4 or the Lariat, leaning towards the Lariat. The reason for this choice is I want Leather Seats. But here is my dilemma:
Is it me, or are the seats really hard? They just don¡¦t seem that comfortable.
Question is ¡V
Do they break in?
Do you just get used to them?
No, they just are hard and you never get used to them.
I¡¦m crazy; the seats are the softest, most comfortable seats you have ever sat in. I must have a sensitive behind.
I currently have a 99 F150, so I don¡¦t think I have an unrealistic expectation as to what truck seats should feel like.
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Bill

'04 Ford's absolutely have the most uncomfortable seats in the business. My 2001 Lariat had the best I've had. '02-'03 was not that great. We have Ford, Chevy and Dodge in our fleet. We've logged lots of miles in ours and they haven't gotten any better. Now, ours are cloth XLT's, but the Lariats didn't seem any better. I spend a lot of time in a truck, and that is why I'm in a Z71, with leather, right now for my personal truck.

hmm... since this is my first truck, I really didn't notice the seats being hard... not exactly as soft as my Honda seats, but they aren't terrible in my opinion.. In all honesty, they feel a lot like the Corbeau GTS II's I have in my Mustang..
I never thought the seats were hard/unconfortable until one of my buddies gave me crap about it. I then sat in his truck (Chevy Z71) and I had to agree. Chevy seats are pretty damned confortable. I wish they were softer, because after driving 2100 miles in two days, GOD my back was hurting. Bye the way, truck did fine except for the 12.5 mpg.
I own an 04 FX4 with the sport black leather seats, and I don't mind them for being firm. I find them very comfortable on long trips and I've even slept on them for hours. I also own a 04 GMC 2500, and I cannot sit in those seats for more then an hour, plus it seems like they get broken in quickly and lose their firmness. I'm sure you'll like the seats.

I personally enjoy the feel of the seats. But I'm coming from an 03 Mustang. If you think F150 seats suck, go sit in a current year Mustang. Feel like you don't have any support/head rest.
Off topic here, Youngmatty; what size are your new wheels. I'm looking at upgrading to 18/9.5's with the current tires.

we have the plain cloth "bench" seats, and they feel comfortable to me, along with the rest of my family. thats after coming from a loaded camry with leather seats. as for the headrests, they are angled that way for a reason. they are designed to restrain your head the best possible way in an accident. they were noted on that Insurance Institute's review that they were a big factor on the people not being severely injured. they dont bother me though.
I have an FX4 with 22,000 Miles I think my seats are very comfortable. maybe you guys with leather need to condition your seats. Armor all Leather care works fast for breakin. Just my 2 cents.
I'm glad to here it's not just me. I posted last year that I thought the seats in the Lariat were not the best on a trip, to hard. The biggest problem is the side bolsters the frame has a metal flange around the entire seat area. I took mine into a custom shop I know and had the metal frame cut down a littleto allow for a better fit, always seemed to be hurting my left leg. Much better now.

However, I have taken a couple long road trips (over 2500 miles) and the while the seat didn't spoil me, it didn't hurt me either. It does seem to make me sit up straight.
Here is a thread I started several months ago about the uncomfortable seats in the 2004 F150 trucks. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...004+f150+seats
I agree 100% after 10,000 miles that the seats in my '04 STX are very uncomfortable.
I don't think anything short of a major modification to the seat will correct this problem.
Unfortunately, After contacting Ford Motor Company Customer Relation Department I found that they were not were not going to do anything about the seats.
If you will look under your seat you will find a solid steel plate with about 4 inches of foam on top of it. No springs anymore.
If you weigh enough, as I do to compress the foam all of the way down, ther is no more cushion.

I dont know if weight is the issue, more like the princess and the pea. I weigh 215 at 6'3 and have no problems with room, hard seats, or headrests. I think the seats are very comfy and I ride with the lumbar in its fully loaded position.
I cant believe this many people are posting about firm seats. I feel like if the were cushy and soft people would be shooting their mouth off about them too.
Guess it comes down to opinions...
