Ford rates the motor at 300hp "No Way" You have to spend an additional 1000.00 to make it feel like 300hp in aftermarket products. My friend has the dodge hemi truck he blows my doors off. So my truck is basically all show and no go

I ask because of this. The new 5.4L engine is kicking @$$. The reason(s) our F-150's are slower is because of this.
1. The tranny gear ratios are very high. 1st gear is 2.84:1 compared to the competition having a 3.??:1 for their 1st gear.
2. We are HEAVY, the heaviest of ALL the comparable competition.
3. We are de-tuned. Both the HEMI and TITAN require 89 octane I believe. Our engine is very de-tuned from the factory.
4. The fast HEMI's have 3.92 gears in the rear. Most of the F-150's are running 3.55's.
5. We have the least HP between us, the HEMI and TITAN and the least TQ.
I will tell you my truck will beat a Titan and keep up with a HEMI.
Reg Cab Short Bed 4x2 5.4L with 3.73 Limited Slip diff.

That depends on how high the plane is that you drop them out of.
300 horses are nothing to sneeze at- slap on a K&N, some FLowmasters, and if you really need it, perhaps a throttle-body spacer- and gwalla- you'd surely hav 315 - 320 HP on tap. They should easily disperse that 500-800 weight penalty.
Titan requires 87 octane, the Hemi requires 89.
All three are awesome trucks, in one way or another.

The Titan DID NOT impress me at all. He had a 4x2 SE 5.6L extended cab (not double cab) and he could only pull a best of 10.10@69 in the 1/8th with a better reaction time than me. He took off before me and I beat him by a tenth+. No traction problems at all for either of us.
I will admit the HEMI's with the 3.92 diff are faster. The Regular Cab Short Bed models. But, once again, I have beaten my friends Reg Cab Short Bed HEMI with 3.55 diff over and over and over at the track and on the street. He ran a 10.05@69.5 mph. I only have an exhaust and he has exhaust and intake and still cant beat me. I ran a 9.95@71.5mph.
Yes, the HEMI runs fine on 87 octane but it prefers 89. See, I am not speaking out of my @$$. I have two very good friends...a Titan owner and HEMI owner. I know the ups and downs of each vehicle as do they with mine. We keep it friendly.
They will both tell you they got beat...hands down.
BTW, the filter doesnt do squat. The TB spacer is junk. I already have a Magnaflow exhaust. I am waiting on a CAI and my Superchips tuner.

FORD VS DODGE
If you can get the Jul 04 issue of Consumer Reports they did
full sized pickups. Overall, the F-150 did quite well, but reliability
reports were not available due to the new vehicle, the Dodge
not so good. If you believe there reports, consider reading the article.

I haven't read all the post so I am not sure if this have been said already.
I test drove the Ram Quad Cab and I loved it .. there were two main reasons why I choose the F150 Supercrew
1- Ram dos not offers the captain chairs in the front only bench.. I wanted the captain with the bigger console - I am a semi big guy (big @ss
, and I need the confy seat ..
2- really the main reason: I have a now 17 months baby, back in January when I put her carseat in the back of the ram it was too cramped.. the f150 offered me lot more room in the back.
Now my wife drives a ford focus, so ther is nooo space in that car, so I needed to compromise on getting a truck for me and a somewhat family ride ... If my wife would have had a bigger car, i.e explorer, then I think I may have go with the Ram, maybe, depending if I could have lived with the bench seating ... or maybe I would have bought a F150 super cab .. I love the flareside look on the supecab Fx4 =

The CR review is a lot closer to what I observed when I was test driving them.

If you read the review carefully you will notice that the difference between the five trucks are not so big.

funny thing is.... they test these trucks in a bubble.
all things being equal I could see the Ram outscoring the Ford in the eyes of a reviewer/test driver.
But many of us have seen or know of past quality problems with Dodge so we automatically deduct that from the positive points of the truck.
We know the Hemi is a brute of an engine, but we deduct the 8mpg maiing the long term ownability of the engien on par with the Triton.
Unfortunately, there are too many factors not weighed during these reviews.

I hear you. I have a 03 Ram and I love it. If the new F-150 had been out when I was in the market I would have given it a serious look. I love the new 04 F Series, they did one hell of a job on it.
If you look at www.alldata.com you will see that both Ford and Dodge have a much better record than the folks at Giant Monkey. I think of you do some reading on carpoint, edmunds and pickuptruck.com you will see that most Dodge owners like their trucks, just as most Ford drivers do. In fact the Ford and Dodge forums are similar in that most people that are posting are looking to mod their truck. Most of the GM boards I see have people bitchin' about their trucks. Nissan looks to be having quality problems too, just take a few minutes to check out www.titantalk.com and you will see what I mean. Nissan I am sure will fix the problems, I am not holding my breath on the Giant Monkey.
I am sure someone is going to ask why I am on F150 forum. Well I think that forums are a good way to see how the trucks really are doing in the real world.
I tell anyone that will listen if they are in the market for a truck, I strongly suggest that they drive both the Ram and the F150, then buy what they like best.

RENT ONE & You'll Run to Ford
After having a 04 Dodge 1500 For a Week & YES it had the Hemi for the Lot of Good it did
- Seats were Terrrible very Soft you almost had to Fight to get out
- Serious Lack of Visability, Doors have small windows & You Sink into the Seats to make matters worse
- Hemi Ha what a Joke, you had to rev it right out to get power
- Axle Hop was Terrible & almost unavoidable

If not i think your lying, or just very stupid.
The 2004 Ford F150 & 2004 Dodge Ram are both fine trucks.
Just make a testdrive to find out which truck you like most.
