I purchased the kit from Ford, haven't installed it yet, going to wait till late fall/early winter when it is cooler. There are 7 wires that you have to splice in to the existing wiring. No simple mount and plug-in.

AhsGrad,
I am surprised that it's not a plug in since these are standard in Canada. I would've figured Ford would have built the wiring harness for this since they sell so many trucks in Canada. Does the kit require extra relays and such?

I am surprised that it's not a plug in. My 2002 was. I purchased my kit from Fordparts.com. $49.89. They told me that the kit would fit the 2004. I hope I dont have to splice wires. I will let you know if it fits.

Daytime Running Lights. Having them installed, most auto insurance companies will give you a discount on your collision coverage.

No relays required, it came with a metal control unit, I figure everything it needs is in the unit. Why I am waiting to install it, it is too hot and humid to crawl under the dash to install. Bad enough when I wash the truck every week, and wax it once a month down here in SC.

One thing I remember about Cincinnati when I would go to CFC (Cincinnati Financial Co) for work back in the 90's was how green your grass stays in the summer time. Ours turn brown when it doesn't rain.

AhsGrad,

I get around the heat and humidity here by starting the weekly washing and waxing at about 7:00 AM but I do know about that sweltering heat that ya'll have down there and I don't blame you for waiting for the better weather. I only head south more toward the winter months to avoid this condition. Let us know when you get this installed as to how hard it was to get everything put together. BTW, for me to keep my yard green, I have to water and fertilize the heck out of it, but it does seem that things stay greener here longer.

Disable DRL on 2004

I purchased the DRL kit for my 2004 Lariat and had my dealer install it. charged me $72.00 which was very good. The wires had to be spliced in to the vehicle. Also you can disable the DRL if you just press on the emergency brake very lightly. If you are installing the 1714 programmer they require the DRL be off. You don't have to pull the fuse.

The Canadian version have DRL. They are not spliced in. The wiring distribution block has the places to plug the necessary items to use DRL without splicing in to the wiring harness. I need to find the part numbers of 3 items needed to make this happen.

not only that but the Canadian models are built on the same line as the US models.

We know how Ford will put wiring harnesses in all vehicles (ie foglights, power windows) even if the model isnt equipped with those options... just to make assembly easier.

Not sure why you would be required to splice.

Universal Kit?

The Dealer kit might be a universal kit to fit many years and models.

When I worked at a Ford dealer a customer's Mustang that he special ordered didn't have the rear defroster he ordered and the sales rep wanted us to put in an aftermarket kit, it would have looked real bad, my buddy put it in, but he order the OE switch as the wiring was all there. It still had the cheap tape on grid, but the rest looked stock.
