Reflashing the PCM

Is there a specific reason why so many of you are getting your PCM reflashed?

Just like your PC.. your truck has software. New software = has bugs. Bugs get worked out... people want the latest software. Some report better throttle response, minor issues may go away, and a host of other little things.

That's all.

I had it done for better throttle response and quicker downshifting. It made a noticeable improvement.

Will the dealer just reflash it or do you have to have a reason?

Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Depends on your dealer. Basically, just make up something like > it hesitates, throttle response poor, etc. That'll force them to starting monkeying with it and they'll most likely go ahead and flash it just to say they did something if nothing else.

Fod those that have had it done, did your dealer put anything under the hood that said it was done?

How can you tell what PCM flash you have? What is the newest flash available, or is it truck-specific? If my truck was built in 05/04, would I have the latest flash?

Do a search for "eay2" and read the PCM Codes thread. Someplace on there we made a list a while back of as many codes as we could come up with and dates and tells you where to find your numbers

If the dealer does a reflash of the PCM they are supposed to place a decal under the hood with the new code on it. Unfortunately, the code may not be the letters and numbers as you are used to seeing such as IMP4, etc. It could be just a string of numbers from the refllash they used. One would have to have the service department translate that code back into a PCM code for you.

Also, my sticker under the hood washed off when cleaning and is gone with the wind.

Well, I dont have one of those stickers and never have. I had my truck in the dealers shop arounk 2k miles and had it re-flashed, among other things. After that I did not notice any differance and have no sticker..............Wonder if they actually did it, guess there is no way to find out and maybe just to have them look at it next time I am in

I got mine done yesterday. I complained of hesitation...and of course they found no trouble (and it really wasn't hesitating...just a little...was hoping for improvment anyway ) ...and they told me "it's normal"..."It's designed that way as a safety feature so it doesn't respond TOO quickly"....or something to that affect. He actually told me that. This is where you resist the urge to shout back at the service guy "oh please!...do you think I'm an idiot?" ....lol So I simply said ok, and let it go because he also said..."but we went ahead and flashed the PCM since there was an update". That's all I wanted...hehe They will be replacing the outside temp sensor as well. On order. It keep reading 6 or more degrees too high.

Here's the sticker they put on after the reflash...it's on the backside of the hood (link to original after picture)...
