Truck cab is leaking- update 1

Just heard from the dealership. They are emergency ordering a new third brake light assembly. It was leaking around it, I reckon. That fits with where the water stains were.
As for the cleaning- we'll see. When I asked about them cleaning the interior that was affected, she said "Oh, okay... uh, I'll let him know..."

I bought it from a good dealer. The guy will go to bat for us if we need him to. Bottom line, the water stains had better not be there when I pick it up tomorrow.
I'm a little miffed- I have to drive the old Cherokee 100 miles tonight because my new truck is in the shop at 3,000 miles. Good thing I like this truck. I realize things happen when products are mass produced, but... well, ya still get miffed.

Just wanted to start an update thread...

You know I notice sometimes when I wash my truck that suds collect under that third light. I am going to have to keep my eye on that area.

Keep us posted.

Unhappy Cab leaking Water

I thought that I had an isolated problem but it sounds as if it is not. I have noticed that at least three times when starting forward while raining real hard that water runs down the inside of the rear glass, this is hard to notice as water beading up on glass looks like it could be on the outside until you touch it.As a matter of fact I didnt even notice it myself my kids said "Dad water is coming in". Since then I have paid more attention and noticed that it only happens when water is allowed to stand on top or when it rains real hard. I will go by Ford this week and see what they say. I hope it is an easy fix such as a third brake light. This also makes sense that we sometimes smell a little mildew smell in the truck I will insist on new interior if any damage is done.

My Truck was built on 1-04 SCREW Lariat But this should not matter from what I can tell all the 3rd brake lights are the same?

Yup- final word is it was a seal on the 3rd brake light assmeplby. They had to replace "the whole assembly", though.
I'll say this- actually I'll elaborate on it when I have cooled down a little, but this is my first chance to deal with a dealership on a warranty issue on a brand new truck. I am pretty peeved, overall.
I have to go to a funeral right now, I'll elaborate when I return.
I'm interested in hearing if my expectations are too high, let's put it that way.

I suspect that this is wider spread than we know I usually pay attention to detail pretty good but this was hard to notice.Having Leather interior the little bit of water that came in just rolled off the seats I guess and left no sign,if I had Cloth I would have seen water spots I imagine. Havent had time to leave it at ford yet but will get to it soon.

Let me say first of all that the seat is clean, the leak appears to be fixed, and the truck is back to normal. That's all good, but that's all the good there is.

Bottom line, I was without the truck for 38 hours, without the offer of a loaner. When I called them to ask when I could/should bring it in, they suggested ASAP. I asked if they could meet me at work the next day, and pick it up. (1.6 miles away) No, they said- it's better if you drop it off. We'll get you into work. Okay, I thought... no biggie- I'll get them to pick me back up this afternoon.
I dropped the truck off at 9am, and they gave me a ride to work. At 3:30 that day, they called me and said they had "emergency ordered" a third brake lamp assembly, and that it would arrive early the next day. I asked if they would send someone to pick me up, so I could drive the truck home and bring it back the next day... She got weird-sounding and said "well, I need it back here by 8AM tomorrow, couldn't you just leave it? You can come pick it up, but we need it back here at 8AM."
CRAP.
See, I was supposed to attend Visitation for my BIL who died last weekend- in a town 45 miles away, and be back at work at 10AM the next day. So, after staying up later than normal, I'll have to get up earlier than normal to have the truck there by 8am, then get to work two hours early and wait. If I leave the truck there, I have to get up at 6am, drive my wife to work, and spend 3 hours in town- at least with a car- time wasted also, before work.
I left the truck there. No biggie- that's the breaks.

The next day, I called them at 1PM. They said "wull, we ain't got to it yet cuzz... uhhh, the part ain't got here yet..."
Well, then why the $%#*& did you need the truck there at 8am then?
The truck was finished at 5pm. They called me at 5:15... again, they can't bring the truck to me- they're not sure if they can come 1.6 miles to pick me up- the guy is really busy and gone at the moment. So, off I went in my wife's Jeep- which she had to bring to me, and was forced to take a break at work to do, to sign a piece of paper and get the keys. I'd have to drive back with the wife after hours and pick up the truck.
Standing in line, I asked about a loaner for next time. "No, sir- those are for people with Extended Warranties..."
HUH???!!??
"yeah, their warranty company pays for it... if you don't have an Extended Warranty, we might kin work with you, but those folks have priority- and like right now, we don't have an extra..."

So, now that I have financed a 2004 F150, found a factory defect at 3000 miles, and asked to have it repaired by you, I get lied to about the time you need it to be there, inconvenienced beyond my wildest dreams, and I'm being told I'm a second class customer because I didn't fall for what most consider to be a ripoff?
Put mildly, I think I should have been OFFERED a loaner by the dealership when they found they'd need to keep the truck more than 3 hours to fix a factory defect. After all, it only has 3000 miles on it, and has NOT been abused in even the slightest way.

I thought to myself: I bought this- my first EVER brand new truck- to get away from having to juggle schedules and beg rides from everyone when my Ford was in the shop... seems I'm in a nice truck, but I'm not only out $30,000 PLUS interest, but I'm out lost time, lost mobility, which is CRUCIAL in my job, AND you are causing my blood pressure to rise. Where am I winning here?
At least my 97 Ranger didn't cost me 20+ dollars a day in bills, insurance, and interest in lost use while it was in the shop! And it had 175,000 miles on it!

Tell me folks, am I wrong? I won't jump on anyone for disagreeing with me. I'm nowhere as mad as I was. I just thought buying a new auto brought perks when something went awry. Seems all it bought me was a jar of KY jelly, and the right to say I own a brand new truck- even if it is in the shop. This is my first NEW car/truck, so I'm not all that experienced in this stuff. I am a 30 year old "nice guy"... not a thug, ect.

Opinions requested. BTW- I won't name the dealership, but it is in a town of well over 40,000 people, 30 or so miles from Nashville. That might give you an idea of dealership size, ect.

I would write a letter complaining to the dealership, CC it to the service manger and whoever is in charge. You can also tell them that you were so unsatisfied with the way you were treated that you will be contacting Ford about the dealership. Call up a few other dealers and see what their policies are on loaners when your vehicle is in under warranty, your dealer's explantion sounds like BS. Good luck and I hope that you don't have any more issues.

Thumbs up

Sure enough that was the problem its the 3rd brake light itself they said they had to replace the whole light because of a gasket that was missing off mine.Ford actually had one in stock and replaced it in about 2 hours with no hassle.

It sounds like you have a problem with the dealer and not Ford. I have had my truck in for service three times now. ( rear end shudder ) The dealer I purchased it from has a policy that they will provide you with a loaner vehicle as long as they are in busniess. The service writter always has me set up with a car when I drop my truck off. I understand this is a dealer policy but I dont know of any auto manufactures that will provide this service. I always buy on the xplan so ther is no need to shop around.

I guess Im lucky to have found a good service department.

Good luck with your truck and I hope the next 100000 miles are trouble free.

When my truck was in for ring/pinion whine at 2500 miles I asked about a loaner and the service writer asked if I had extended warranty, if I had then no problem, if not no loaner. They do have a good shuttle service that goes about 15 mile radius which was OK for me. I'm gonna get the extended anyway as I'll have the yellow peril for 75-100k miles
