Overhead Rail System 04 vs 05

I know we have a resident Rail system expert (rambunctious) who sometimes stops so hopefully he or anyone else can answer this.

Setting the DVD harness issue aside is there difference in the 05 rail system vs the 04? I'm teetering between the two builds. I am getting the DVD system regardless so is there a benefit to the 05?

Thanks

Jim

05 will have an auxillary power (12V, ign, grd) pigtail up in the headliner for accessories like the Motorola two way radio self charging module available in 05 and any other future modules.

we are working hard to make sure that the 04 trucks will have the same features as well with the aftermarket harness we are working on.

I will take this post to the bank (or ford management) if the rail is what is making your decision for a new $35,000 truck Vader but you might look at price vs resale value between the two when buyin one or the other on the same date.

hope this helps

Well I don't see much difference in the 04 vs 05 models

However, I think the rail system has amazing potential. I have always bought sun roof equiped vehicles and when I told my wife that my new truck wouldn't have one she couldn't believe it.

I just don't want to buy an 04 and then see some "cool" accessory that my 04 doesn't support without an aftermarket look.

If the price is margianlly different then yes I'm just that goofy that I'll pay for potential accesories down the line. I plan on keeping the truck for years.

04, 05, Lariat, KR.....ahhhh choices...

Thanks for the info.

rambunctious.

I bought the 04 and yes the rail system played a decision. Great idea....now where is that auxillary power option for an 04?

Thanks

We're getting closer.

We have a meeting soon with ford to finalize the whole proposal for the dvd harness.

Jsut FYI. I ran a power and ground wire up my A pillar and along the left edge of the left rail above the headliner to use for aux power. pretty easy.

By the way I read through the post you linked to in an earlier post from another website. I saw the pic of the XM satelitte plug in...Wow that would be awesome.....any new developments there?
