I want to replace my radio with a radio/dvd player and some speakers. I am no audiophile, so I am not sure what is the best

Well, I guess it just depends on how much you want to spend and what exactly you want. I went with the Kenwood DDX7015. It's got a 6.5" screen mounted in-dash for video. There's also models by Eclipse an Pioneer that have this type of screen, and feature built-in navigation, but they are about $2000.00 (I got the Kenwood for $1000.00) Or you could go with a single din head unit with screens in the headrests or roof-mounted. I really like the Kenwood though. You can find pictures of mine and others in this forum.

This may be a dumb question, but I tend to stay away from these units because of fear of theft, do they have any anti-theft features like the smaller detachable face units?

The Kenwood has a programable code that will disable it, but all that really means is that the thief is going to have astereo that's useless, and you're going to have a big hole in your dash. I'm probably going to get my windows retinted extra dark to make it harder to see what's inside, as well as make the screen easier to see in daylight.

I've never had any aftermarket equipment ripped off, and I live in Detroit for pete's sake! I don't think it increases your odds of break-ins so long as your smart about your car's security.

Also, you can pay like $10/yr for additional coverage for your system. Removal faces are great... out of site out of mind!

I am ordering stuff as we speak to upgrade my radio. I am replacing the head unit with a 7in Touchscreen LCD Monitor, and then building myself a little computer that will run on WINDOWS and control my radio, satilite navigation, MP3's, be able to play DVDs, and I'm going to have a wireless network card on it so I can upload songs from my house into it. The parts should be here in a week or two, I had to order from the UK, but the entire setup will be done by the end of July, time permiting. I'll get you guys some pictures as I go on it.

I have always run aftermarket and never been ripped either, but then again I never had a tv screen in my dash. Besides I think the truck is never farther than 50 yards from me anyway, work or home.
I run a Pioneer MP3 unit right now that really works well with the 2 10s and the kicker 5x7 components and 5x7 rears. But if I had the money I would probably put DVD/NAV in dash.
