Okay, here is my question. I just bought a 2004 STX yesterday with hail damage for 18K. It is the metallic silver color. It is already driving me nuts that I don't have power locks, windows, and a tach. There is a XLT at the dealership for about 3K more. Only problem is that it is white and I love the metallic silver. The XLT has the 5.4L engine, STX has 4.6L. What do you think I should do? Just install power locks and windows myself, or go spend a little more and get the truck I want, but not in the right color? I can't afford to get one that isn't hail damaged so these are my only options. Thanks.

I make it a point not to advise people on decisions that are purely personal choice, and that's what your decision really is.

I made the same choice in favor of the XLT, and will never regret it. You point out that it's driving you crazy not to have automatic windows and locks after just one day. Do you expect to get used to it any time soon? It doesn't sound like it. I think you have already answered your own question, now go do the right thing.

 

I agree with Johnboy2, This has to be your decission. You want the extra goodies the XLT comes with then if the differance in price doesn't come into play go for the XLT. But which ever model you decide to purchase there is one very stong constant: you'll love almost everything about the 04 F-150 no matter what

Just a little note $3000.00 more wont cost but about 20-30.00 dollars per month more... hmmmmmmm
yes I had the same delima: XLT vs STX, I wanted a yellow STX and wound up with a Silver XLT because of interior, power, mirrors and a few other upgrades on XLT, I wish I got the Lariat!!!! just my opinion though!

 

If the xlt is what you want then the xlt is what you should get.
Why settle ? Why make a payment for something your not happy with ?

I was gonna say that exact thing.

 

my dad has the same regrets with his truck. only because of the power locks. before he never had anyone riding with him, so manual locks were no big deal. its actually what he wanted. since he got his new STX, he never gets to go anywhere alone anymore. he just doesnt like trying to climb over everything to unlock the passenger door. he says he could do without the power windows and mirrors, but he regrets not having power locks. plus he hates the alarm it has. he had it activated at the dealer (yes, all trucks come with alarm, some just need to be activated at the dealer for a large fee), and it automatically sets after a few minutes of the truck being off. before work he gets coffee at the store and doesnt set the alarm. he comes back out, puts the key in and the alarm goes off. not a big deal, he just has to get used to it, but he gets embarassed getting in his truck and setting the alarm off.

when i was shopping for my truck i had one dealer try to cut me
an excellent deal on a STX but this particular one didn't have the fog lights or the tach, both of which i wanted so i blew off his so-called deal and paid a little more at another dealer for the package i dug...
