To good to be true..........

I knew it was to good to be true.

My 2004 FX4 SCAB was as close to perfect as can be, with none of the problems I've read about on this forum. Then the other night, after 3 weeks and 1300 miles, I get rear-end by someone (older F350) doing 40 MPH while I'm stopped waiting for the car ahead of me to turn left. Of course I slam into the vehicle ahead of me, so I've got front and rear damage. No estimate of damages yet because the insurance companies want to be at the body shop when they pull off the box so they can inspect the damage to the cab. The box was buckled and pushed into the back of the cab, with the most damage on the passenger side.

So much for having a nice new truck.

Sorry to hear, Wolf.

Built Ford Tough (F150) vs. Built Ford Tough (F350).

Hmmm. ChrisCraft vs. Oil Tanker?

First are you OK?? I guess if your posting your able to walk, talk and type. Did you get checked out? I got rear ended at about 40mph, same type of situation and had a chiropractor work on me for a year for whiplash. Make 'em pay!

Good luck with the repairs. Make sure you get them to do a good job even though you may have to wait a little longer. Things like paint over spray on the chassis or orange peel (not looking like factory) will ding you when you go to sell.

A fine example of why our insurence prices are so high:

Yea........................

curse the people who get hurt by morons rear ending people.

I am puzzled at why you took a shot at some1 who got hurt by an idiot but were silent on the idiot..........

Your insurance rates are high because of the people who rear end people. The cost of their bad driving is somewhat passed on to them through higher premiums. Don't kid yourself though.
The cost of the bad drivers is passed on to all of us. They are the reason your, mine and every1 elses premiums are high.

Damn those auto collision victims.....

ScottFcasni is exactly right. The people that take the insurance companies for all they can get is the only reason our insurance is so high. Buying you a new F-150 is nothing compared to the medical bills the insurance company has to pay for you getting hit. Then they have someone who plays them for more money just to get out of a few weeks of going to work. All that lost pay and doctor visits is soon more than the truck's value.

Was he yapping on his cell phone?

I see this almost daily... brain-dead on the cell phone and slams on the brakes and barely avoids hitting number cars in front of them.

ScottFcasni-
You obviously missed the point in my post. First I'm asking if he is "OK". Our bodies are more important than the vehicles we drive. In my case, the orthopedic doctors put my neck in a brace for 2 weeks. Then after they took it off I started having head aches. The surgeons recommended operating. Then they recomended a chiropractor worked on my neck through physical therapy to eliminate pinched nerves by the vertebra. With whiplash injuries, there is delayed post trama. This is a fact.

Yes, there are people who take advantage of the insurance companies. When I said "make 'em pay", I mean't is, if it's their fault (other driver) that caused the accident, make sure you are checked out, with second opinions, so that down the road you are not spending more of your own money on medical bills in a situation of being hit by a negligent driver.

Yes I walked away from the accident, but not without getting whiplash. I did go to the doctor and get X-Rays taken of my neck. Thankfully they were negative. Other than having a stiff and sore neck for a few days, I'll survive.

What was the idiot doing that hit me? He was waving to a friend on a motorcycle at another intersection. And yes, if the cops would have been a little slower (I called them myself), I may have opened my own can of whoop-*** on him. The longer I thought about it, the madder I got. But what are you really going to do?

The worst of it is, no matter what, I get screwed. I end up with a low mileage truck that has been in a major wreck. Even if they fix it right so it looks good, etc., it will never be the same. My enjoyment of the "new" vehicle goes away and my trade-in will be less.

The person that hit me is only liable for damages caused, not for replacement of the vehicle. I can undestand this when you have an older vehicle or one with a lot of miles on it, but when the vehicle is virtually brand new, it just doesn't seem fair. But, who said life was always fair?

Although I'm not inclined to do so, I can understand why someone would go to a lawyer and go after this guy for as much as they can get. The extra money would help replace the truck and as far as I'm concerned, set the situation right.

Wolfer1,

In Georgia insurance companies are required to pay you for "diminished value" of your vehicle after it's been in a accident. This is a check that's paid directly to you that's above and beyond the repair costs. I don't know whether such a law exists where you live or not, but it might be worth checking on. I believe this also applies if the accident is your fault too.

TUFF FORD would probably know more about this since he's in the business.

In any case, it might lessen the blow a little.

WOLFER1,

That's awful... I hope all works out for you.

I had something similar happen to me. I'd had my '93 F-150 for about 2 months. I'd bought it 2 years old... though it had just 14k on the odometer, and was absolutely perfect. Some guy ran a red light and I'd plowed into him at around 50 MPH. Didn't even have time to take my foot off the accelerator.

The front end was destroyed. Needed a front clip, driver's side door, windshield, cowl, several suspension, steering, and engine components. Frame was bent. She spent 11 weeks at the dealership. Some of it due to backordered parts. Everything was put right, and the dealership did a fantastic job of repairing it.

It should have been totalled. Long story... about the paying insurance company going bankrupt before the repairs to my truck were completed.

Have faith that Ford has some very talented mechanics to put your ride back right. I'd still have the finished product inspected by at least one reputable body shop...

Good luck,
Gary

A similar situation happened to me. less than 3 weeks after i got my new 04 XLT, i was leaving work and i was turning left and this guy hit me =\. To keep an extremely long story short, the guy ran. Never found him. my truck was in the shop for 3 months. Frame had to be replaced cause it was bent. I had to rely on family for transportation. and i had to pay a 500 dollar deductible. But on the plus side. Everything is like it is brand new. The body shop did everything perfectly. Props to james autobody in clearwater florida =O. One thing that suprised me about our truck frames is how long they were. I know the truck is long, but when you have the frame sitting there on the ground it just seems so much longer.
