remote entry keypad

I have a 2004 scab and just purchased a new door handle
with the remote keypad. Installed with no problems, except
that after plugging the thing up, it's as dead as a door nail.

Does anybody know if there are any other plugs, jumpers, etc. to
make the thing active??? Or does the computer need to be told that the thing is out there?

Mine has it factory installed and I've never used the thing . The only good I can see is an accidental lock the keys in the truck scenario , shoot I don't even remember the code ! I believe you will have to talk to a Ford tech on an install .

A quick question.Do you have auto door locks already installed on the truck. All models don't come auto locks and if not you need more parts.

Maybe the circut needs a fuse. Could be ford left it out cause the keypad didnt come standard with the truck. I was at the ford dealer yesterday, and they offer the remote pad in a stick on version for $110, or $149.95 installed. I'm sure I could install it myself, but I figure if I have the dealer do it, and it falls off, they will have to replace it for zip.----Opinions?----

How about the price, does that seem fair?

BTW, it is a ford product, not an aftermarket brand.

Never used it?! My goodness I use mine all the time. It's great for when I go to play softball or basketball because I can lock the keys in the truck and not worry about losing them or having someone walk off with them while I'm playing.

Then in the winter, since I don't have an automatic starter yet, I can start 'er up and lock it with confidence that it'll be there when I get back.

I recommend learning the code and using it. I don't ever want another vehicle without it. It was a must have option when I purchased.

I recommend programming your own code instead of learning the factory one.

The truck has power locks and all the other goodies. Just plugged it into the factory harness that is in the door and thought at that point I should've been done!! I checked to see if there were any missing fuses, but all the fuses are there.

I don't have a problem remembering the factory code. I know sports figures numbers pretty good and usually associate them in somehow. I figure if I program my own code, that's 1 more code someone could potentially figure out.

I use it all the time for the same reason Guigster mentions(gym, etc), like APT, I prefer my own code to the original factory one.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have to tell the computer you have the option. Someone else in another thread stated that if you install cruise control on a vehicle that does not have it, you have to tell the computer that the option is now activated.

Ditto plus if you have other FoMoCo vehicles with the same keypad they can all be programmed to a common code.makes it easier when wanting to get somthing out when at home and not needing to run in the house and hunt down several sets of keys

Someone on here was married. He & wife used the factory code. They went though a sour divorce. She got into his truck and did some damage. If you use your own code, it can be changed. Just one example, not that everyone should fear divorce. There is a benefit to changing the code, though.

From what I understand, the factory code can not be deleted. You can add and delete an additional code but the factory code will always work.

The Kingfish is correct. Factory codes cannot be changed or deleted. You can add/delete a second 5 digit code.

Right. I think APT was suggesting make a personal code and never reveal the factory code. Then you can change your personal one and nobody will ever know the factory one.
