I would like to believe that if that were possible, or true, we would have heard something from someone on this board. Superchips and Hypertech is nothing new, I tend to believe them when they say back to stock with no problems. Someone here I am sure has had an engine problem at some point with a chip and walked out of it without Ford knowing. I hope.

i trust Superchips product immensely although Hypertech's les than worthy product would leave me guessing as to what is happening. if it has a back to stock program you should be fine.

Talking

Like a few here I have also done the PCM reflash from Troyer. It came along with the Stage I package and I'm happy with the whole thing. Yes its a bit costly but good bang for the buck.

My wife gave it to me for my birthday this past month so I can't cry "its too much to spend!" I will in the future be buying the CAN flasher or maybe the sequal to the 9100 when they are available.

My flavor of programming was a Tow/Perf on 91 octane. Thats all we can get out here in California. The other changes to things like shift points and throttle response are awsome. You'll love it!

Look up other posts in the "Chips" section on this too.

Beware of the programmers and the dealership

My FIL is a saleperson at a FORD dealership and I have spoke to the service guys about the programmers. They tell me that the onboard computers now time and date stamp any mods to the system. I was also told that a programmer would void the warranty on the engine, tranny and rear end. Not sure that a little horsepower gain is worth thousands of dollars for repairs. I know that alot of dealerships dont mind fixing vehicles with modified brains in them. To me it is warranty money no matter what.

Anyone out there ever had to take theirs back in for any work on the motor, tranny or rearend and caught crap because of the computer having a different program or show that it has been updated from someone other than the dealership?

The service guys you speak of are full of ***** clear up to their eyes.....
If your using the X-cal2 or many of the othe tuners for that matter, you can set it back to stock before taking it in if the need arises.
And for NEEDING to run premium fuel, that is utter BS also. With Mikes custom tuning on my '04 I make exactly 8-10 horsepower less on 87 octane on my Performance tune..If your scared to modify your vehicle by all means then don't do it, the loss in performance and economy is up to you....

Do you need to return your truck to stock before taking it into the dealers? If so, what do you do if you have the 3.25" AF1 intake which does not work well, if at all, with the stock tune?

What you do with your vehicle is totally up to you. Is your dealer mod friendly? If not then I would return your vehicle to stock, AND remove the AF1 before taking it in.
I am fortunate in that the owner of the dealership I use is a hot rodder and classic car collector so I have very little or no problem. As a matter of fact when I had my '03 Cobras throw out bearing sleeve replaced under warranty, I took it in with the slicks and window numbers still on it. The owner took it for a little test spin in the rear parking lot and was totally impressed. He also BOUGHT my Lightning from me knowing that I put about 1/2 of the 14,000 miles that were on it either in route to, or at the Drag Strip.

I hear ya, what about just for routine work, oil changes, 15k, 30k service, etc... Think all the extras should be removed?
