Check your rear tires!

For those of you with LS rear end, you need to check your rear tires for couping. Took my truck to the dealer for rear end clunk and they replaced the clutch packs. THe service guy said thats why my tires were couping. I rotated my tires last week and now with the fronts on the back they are now couping too. Anyone else have this problem? By the way I have goodyears. Dont know if that makes a difference.

I have a lariat with 5000 miles on it and the tires are as good as when i picked it up .I have LSD and it does not make noise. The tire brand on your truck may be the problem.

I assume your talking about cupping, I haven't heard of couping. In any case, how can the LS rear end be the root cause? Cupping can be caused by an unbalanced tire condition, faulty wheel bearings, loose parts, fatigued springs or weak shock absorbers. The rear end just makes the wheels turn, it doesn't effect how the tire makes contact with the road...

Unrelated to the thread but, the title reminded me of something.
The 1997-2003 models had a problem with the spare rubbing with the underside of the truck.
The fix was a homemade spacer of plywood, carpet etc...
The sidewall ended up with four nasty marks that could damage it. (and four new ones everytime it was lowered because it never went back the same)

You may want to drop your spare for inspection to see if the new model has the same flaw.

dzervit, You want correct my spelling. This board isn't here to teach people how to spell. Thanks for the english lesson. Can you figure out what KMA means. Back to the post. LS rear ends will bind up making left or right turns from a stop. I was asking if anyone else had this problem.

Question

I thought it took a couple thousand miles before a cupping issue would show up?

I thought LS would only lock up in a turn if it was faulty, hence "limited" and not locker. If you have the back end locking up when you turn its going to squeal and you would know it was having problems, maybe even the infamous shudder/vibe would occur. I agree that it most likely doesnt have to do with your LS but a another problem directly related to tire contact or offbalance.

I have the 3.73 LS in mine and my goodyears show no signs of this at about 9600 miles.

Whoa! Calm down killer, I was trying to make sure I had it right! There are so many odd terms for tire wear I wanted to be sure you meant cupping. I wouldn't want to start giving advise w/o knowing the facts... .. and don't worry, I won't give 'ya any more advise (spelling or not).
