Talking Georgia window tinting law...GONE!?!

Just read an article saying that the Georgia Suprem Court has tossed out the window tint law for the state of Georgia. Something about the way the law was written which made it apply only to state residents instead of non-residents.

I'm sure they will find a way to make the law active again, but until then I'm going to enjoy riding by all the cops in these little "2-bit" towns with my windows up instead of down.

If the inerrant law only applied to residents, can't a cop rationalize the court's decision and still ticket you if you're a resident? Be cautious before flaunting!

No, the law has been completly done away with. We've had to toss out a few tickets that were written just before the appeal. I am sure that the law will be rewritten and back on the books before too long. I've never been a fan of the law and never wrote a ticket for it. In my opinion, the law needs to fall under DOT and be nation wide. I mean DOT regulates everything else from light color to tires. It just doesn't seem right to me that 20% window tint can be legal in one state and not another. If we are going to have a law, it should apply equally to everyone.

This is a states rights issue just like the War of Northern Aggression.

Cool.

I still like my 30% though, don't have any plans on doing anything with it.

Here is a web address that lists all the
STATE WINDOW TINTING RULES & LAWS

http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Law_Chart/S...aw%20Chart.htm

I can’t figure out sh*t from reading it. I had my front windows tinted with LLumar window film and got the darkest the tint shop said they were allowed to put on front windows. 30CH is what the receipt says so I am assuming that’s 30%?

Well I've had 20% tint on my windows for the past 7 years and actually I've only got stopped for it once. That one time took place in what I call a "two-bit" town with one traffic light and 12 patrol cars. This same town has the reputation of being a speed trap, but once everyone figured them out on that they lost revenue and had to start doing something else to generate money to pay for all those patral cars. I some how got by with a warning ticket, but several of my friends had to pay $80 tickets for dark windows.

I don't car if the law is put back on the books next year or next week it doesn't matter to me either way. I didn't think twice about it when I took my 04 FX4 to have 20% tint applied to the front windows, I have nothing to hide from the cops. What I don't understand is why the law only applied to front windows, but the rear windows could be as dark as you wanted them. Couldn't someone just as easily shoot the officer from the back seat of my truck as I could sitting in the front seat?

In Texas, the shop that does your inspection checks (supposed to anyway) the windows with a light meter.

If you are too dark, they are not supposed to issue you an inspection sticker.

I had a Jeep GC with limo (aka 5%) all the way around. I lived in FL, DC, MO and TX before I got rid of the vechicle. I never got stopped once.

A few tips from some police friends: Roll down your windows if you are being pulled over. Also, turn on ALL interior lights. This give the tint a much light look from the outside.

I lived in Augusta GA a couple summers ago and got pulled over in my old Blazer for illegal tint. Luckily after a long debate with the officer he let me go because my plates were NY plates and even though the tint was illegal in NY and in GA he said he couldnt ticket me because the truck was considered an out of state vehicle. Other than that, I have been running 20% windows on every vehicle back for about 8 years and have never been pulled over for it. Although stay away from led lights on your car/truck. Got pulled over 3 times for blue lights on the truck, not good.
