Removing my flowmaster 40 series
I had the Magnaflow 14256 18" welded into my stock pipe and I love it. It sounds like a Mustang GT to me but there is some drone in the cab between 1700 and 2000 rpm. Basically between 63 and 75mph. It is not overly annoying but there is definatly a hum. If you want to keep all the noise out of the cab you may want to go with the longer 14577 22".

I had a custom system built. 3" piping from the cats, dual in, single out, with a 22" Magnaflow muffler. Terrible drone around 18-20K RPM. Changed the muffler out for a Magnaflow 30", drone is better, but too quiet. Now I am thinking about changing to a single in single out to emulate the Magna Flow bolt on with a 5x8x18 Muffler. I drove a 5.4 with one on, loud...but no drone that I could tell. Ouch! If my wife new what I was spending on exhaust systems... she would freak!
Magnaflow man. I have Magnaflow X-pipe out the side. It sounds great when you hit it and no drone. I cant even hear it at idle, but when I hit the gas you can definitely hear it.
gri·mal·kin (gr¹-môl“k¹n, -m²l“-) n. 1. A cat, especially an old female cat. 2. An old woman considered to be ill-tempered. [Variant of graymalkin : gray + obsolete Malkin, diminutive of the personal name Matilda.]
I have dual flowmaster 40 series w/ no crossover pipe (there was no room for a crossover pipe in the area heat isulated for the mufflers). The piping is all 2.5" with rear exiting tips. The exhaust is fairly loud with a drone that goes away above 55 mph. I really like the way it sounds.

So the question Remains!
To flow or not to flow! Flowmaster versus Magnaflow - it seems as though everyone has a different take on the subject - and from reading many many posts regarding muffler choices - there is one thing I can say with confidence:
"It all depends on what you as the truck owner likes"
It's obvious that if you want more throatiness or V8 sounding noise, you will have to sacrafise for a drone at highway speeds in the cabin. Is this a fair assumption?
If you really want something loud on the outside and if you don't care about cabin resonnance - go with a glass pack!

Magnaflow is straight-through with no restrictions. No restrictions equals better flow, and better flow equals more horsepower. Both the aluminized and the stainless steel mufflers have a Lifetime Warranty.

The Only Packing in this Baby... is the Punch!
FLO-PRO has proven it beats the competition with louvered pipe that accelerates the exhaust flow through our muffler. The louvers also give a deep performance sound without the use of fiberglass that eventually blows out!
FLO-PRO performance mufflers are designed to boost the horsepower generated from your street vehicle. The 100% aluminized steel welded construction will outlast conventional locked-seam, double wrap mufflers.
they all have their claims. they all have fancy pictures to show you how their design is better than the competition.
If you can afford the $40 to change out the muffler and have a shop that will work with you, just try the one you think you want. Then take it back if it is wrong, and keep trying. It took me three tries, but I got it exactly like I like it now. I have the single in/Dual out Flo-Pro 4.75x10.75. No drone on the highway.
