exhaust
I know there is an exhaust forum but since this forum is designated to the 04 F150 I thought I would ask here.
I want to put on a new exhaust. I want something that will add HP and TQ but I dont want it too loud. I also want the tailpipe to come out the exact same spot as the stock exhaust. I also want something I can put on myself. I have had Borla on my Ranger and liked the sound a lot and it was easy to install. I have been looking at the Banks but what else does everyone suggest?

Magnaflow is the way to go. It has a straight through design, it's not too loud, and it don’t drone at highway speeds. I bought just the aluminized muffler and had it welded on at my local shop for a total cost of $100. bucks.(total, including all parts and labor) All Magnaflow mufflers carry a lifetime warranty.

I purchased the Borla single in-single out system. It took me less than an hour to remove the OEM exhaust and install the Borla.
Outstanding fit, sound is great, and it made a world of difference in the throttle response.
I paid $426.11 delivered to the door.

BANKS is definately what you are looking for. awesome sound don't lose any low end torque and looks awesome. easy bolt on instal that uses the stock mounts and it is solid stainless. it is a single pipe that mounts right where your stocker is.

Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust System for 1999-2004 Ford F-series Trucks w/V10
15709 Magnaflow Cat-back Exhaust System for 1999-2004 Ford F-250 & F-350 SuperDuty trucks with a configuration of Crew Cab, Short Bed, & the 6.8L V-10 engine.
Price includes free Ground shipping to anywhere in the 48 states! (Shipments to locations outside the 48 states will be charged for the *additional* shipping cost for locations in Canada, Hawaii & Alaska - you will not see that reflected on your online order, as each must be calculated individually - and we will call you with that exact additional amount before charging your credit card!)
This is the exhaust system you've been hearing us rave about on F-150 Online. Showing positive torque gains at any throttle position as well as at any rpm, there is NONE of the usual torque loss below 3000 rpm that is so common with almost all truck & SUV cat-back exhaust systems.
This Magnaflow cat-back exhaust even gained more peak HP than any other exhaust system we tested, along with gaining torque *everywhere*, a clear demonstration of superior flow engineering specifically for these heavy trucks. Simply put, you can't get a better result with any other commercial cat-back or muffler shop system.
Made of all aircraft grade T304 stainless steel, both the muffler and the 4" tip are also mirror-polished, with the tip exiting in the stock location. The 4" tip is progressive in it's diameter and has a classy understated look, it's not obvious or gaudy.
The sound of this exhaust is wonderful, a very reasonable and family-friendly compromise imparting a muscular tone to the V10 engine's exhaust note without being LOUD. There is no "drone" inside the cabin, you can have a conversation in normal tones at any speed. The exhaust is quiet at idle and at cruise, though you will be able to hear it as compared to the stock exhaust, which cannot be heard at all. When you nail the throttle it will be somewhat louder as is appropriate at full-throttle, yet is never objectionable. The best compromise between volume level and muscular tone of any system we've heard. This is NOT the system for those who want an obvious LOUD kind of sound all the time.
Power gains typically average about 23 HP & 26 lbs./ft. of torque on the V10 engines in F-series trucks. Thanks to the largest peak power gains as well as more torque at any throttle position or rpm, this cat-back system is literally perfect for any kind of use, typical daily driver, *great* for towing, all the way up to actual drag racing, this exhaust adds more power all the time in any situation.
Magnaflow cat-back exhaust systems are backed by a limited Lifetime warranty for as long as you own your vehicle.

Do they make them in a NON stainless? I really dont have the money for the stainless.
The Banks almost looks too big. Is that possible?
Where is the best place to buy the Magnaflow? And will you gain anything more with a SI/DO vs SI/SO?

i dont know about all that stuff a coupla posts ago, but, i had one installed friday and i love it. i was thinking that the volant intake installed 2 weeks earlier was a bad idea that robbed my low end but with the magnaflow working in conjunction with it things are a whole lot better.

I'm dying to know what is sounds like, since it uses 3.5" pipe and 5" tip it should be deeper than the rest
