"Grinding" noise from front end

04 F-150 Supercrew, 4x4 with 5.4 engine. I have 1,800 miles on this new truck and have started to hear/feel a grinding noise coming from the front of the truck, especially when cold. Noise seems to be coming from the transmission or engine area only when starting from the stopped position. Noise is worse if turning and worse yet when towing my Skeeter bass boat.

Worried that this may lead to future transmission problems but cannot nail down exactly where it is coming from. Again, seems to be worse when truck is first started. If I didn't know better, I'd think it is coming from the 4 wheel drive system as if engaged in 4-high?

Any one else experienced this???

Ok, I had a similar noise but only in 4wd. Ended up being normal though. Sorry I could not help more.

Did you find a solution?

My 98 F150 4x4 is making the exact same sounds...much worse when I tow my boat. It sounds like loose chains rattling around up in front... What is it???
