Well that was a mistake. Your brakes are factory lubricated to prevent squeal. Washing them at the car wash which I'm assuming you mean a power washer type would only worsen the situation.

DID YOU READ MY REPLY??? YOU NEED TO LUBRICATE THEM. YES I BELIEVE YOU HAVE/HAD A PROBLEM, BUT WASHING THEM AT THE CAR WASH ONLY MADE IT WORSE BY WASHING OUT THE LUBRICANT. GO BUY SOME BRAKE QUIET AND YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. NOTHING IS GOING TO GET SOLVED BY MAKING INSINUATING POSTS THAT OTHER MEMBERS ARE LYING ABOUT THIER BRAKE PERFORMANCE.

100 miles on my new truck and notice the brake squeal only in reverse. Will see what happens after a few thousand miles.

I am not a professional mechanic, but I know a lot about vibration & harmonics from my many years in audio & music. The above statement might be partially wrong. It may be absolutely correct, & motorcycle service bulletins agree, that the vibrating surfaces causing the noise are the pad backing & the piston surface. It is also possible that the composition of the pad material can change the way it interacts with the disc, & subsequently change the harmonics of the pad's rear backing plate, which then can affect the noise. On many motorycles they use a spring to damp this exact vibration, to minimize the high frequency vibration (squeeling is high frequency). On the other hand, it is very possible that a goop made just for the purpose of preventing brake squeel should solve the problem (between the pad back plate & the piston).

Hope you fix it soon, sounds like that can literally drive you nuts with their frequency & intensity. In acoustics we call it the "threshold of pain" for a reason.

I have had the brake squeal for quite some time. Although, I did just get over 10,000 miles and it has diminished some. Not all. Don't get me wrong there is still some squealing, but it was much worse a few thousand miles ago. It doesn't do it all the time now. Unless I'm just adjusting the pressure I apply to the brake to compensate because I know what position it really squeals at.

I've always thought that the squealing comes from the pad vibrating against what it's mounted to. Whenever I did my own brakes on other vehicles, I used to put this glue/paste/gel, something gooey, on the back of the pads to keep them from vibrating, thus keeping them from squealing.

This sounds true to me...which now that I think about it, disproves the dealer's theory of "All metal pads squeal."

It's not the face of the pad. It's the back. Because when I brake hard, it doesn't squeal. The pad has a lot of pressure on it. It's only when I do the slow roll to a stop that I get the squeal.

Yea, I'll ad to that- My brakes squealed from 15 miles through 4,500 pretty consistantly (FX4 Supercab). It is less now. However, I plan on putting the lube or goop on the backside of the pads (metal to metal, pad backing plate to piston) area. Yea, I agree with Guigster, those dealers (service department) do not know what they are talking about, when they say "all metallic pads squeal". I put high concentration metallic pads on my Corvette and eliminated the squeal over the stock pads. They came with a high temperature plastic bonded on the metal to metal contact area.

Mine squeal. At some point I'll have the dealer look into it or my local mechanic. I thought it might be the stock brake pads. Or the fact that I ride my brakes as I slowly squeeze the truck into the garage. I have about 3 inches of clearance on three sides. It's a tight fit.

My truck is going in for squealing breaks on Saturday. My dealer is aware of the problem. We will see what they do to resolve the issue. I have an FX4 with 3,000 miles on it. Also I have the vibration and lack of AC problem as well. The dealer is going to address those issues as well.

I went down to the local Autozone and they were out of the brake lube. Guess there must be a lot of 04 Fords in the neighborhood, heh. Then I started thinking, why should I be messing with this? I'm eating Spam and drinking ditchwater to pay for this thing why should I mess with it, so I made an appointment with another dealer's service department so we'll see where that gets me. The verdict will be in Saturday. I appreciate all the advice fellas.

I have over 24000 miles with no squeal at all. But I think I will be putting on ceramic pads in the near future.

I had some squealing and I mentioned it to the dealer when I took it in for free oil change, also mentioned that when I got on it when passing or on entrance ramps that it had some throttle lag.

PCM flash, new front rotors and new front calipers and all problems appear to be gone at this time.

'05 FX4 7,500 miles.

My '05 has 13k miles on it and has squeeked and vibrated from about 500 or so also. the dealer has replaced all four rotors, helped a little withe the squuek and no more vibe, tried the lube on the areas suggested in here, helped a little more. use to squeek ALL the time stopping at lights, slowing down in parking lots, d-thru's etc., now it pretty much only does it in reverse and on extended braking periods at very slow speeds. any suggs. I'm hoping to get some ceramics (mainly for the horrid amounts of brown dust I clean off the rims every couple of days) for the beast for Xmas. so nix that one

Thanx
