Transfer case is junk

Have the truck at the dealers now for two days and they are having to install a new transfer case. I just backed out of the driveway Sunday morning going to work and the as soon as I got over 15mph you could hear the chain in the transfer case grinding. Every time I tried to acclerate it would grind. I put it in 4 wheel and it was fine, no grinding nothing. The dealer has had the truck since Monday and ordered a new transfer case. Hopefully I will find out more today and can keep you all updated.

JDaddy...I believe you're the 1st one on this board to report a transfer case issue. Let's hope it's only a singular case of Murphy's law. In the meanwhile, enjoy putting "the miles on there (sic) car"...too bad it's not their gas too, huh?

I know it's a pain in the ****, but don't overreact...yet!

I am assuming they are covering it under warranty? If so, it's just one of the many pleasures of owning a vehicle! Let us know how it turns out!

Update for those who are following. I just spoke with the tech who is working on my truck, he beleives that the fork has snapped which is causing the grinding sound. They are in the process of tearing things apart and inspecting the entire case. I should have the truck back tomorrow.

Well I was supposed to get my truck back last night. They orginallt told me it would take a couple of days to get this fixed. Its been going on two weeks now and I guess I should have asked what couple of days they were talking about.

I caslled the dealer yesterday the 15th and was told that the truck is ready. I live a hour away from where I bought the truck so I told them I could be there at 4:30 or 5:00. I get there and go and pull around and drop off all my stuff in the truck. Turn in the rental and go to get my keys. I pass the service manger in the hall he says hi and keeps walking. Turns out that he was aware the truck was not fixed and to make matters worse they dont even have a replacement transfer case. According to him the transfer case was Fed Ex'd to the dealership and that Fed ex decided to not deliver it because it was leaking fluid. Further more he tells me that he is sorry and that they didnt put there best effort forward. I am trying to be understanding but this story he is pushing dosent seem to jive. I thought Fed Ex would not deliver anything over a hundred pounds to begin with.

Just wondering what others would do in my spot.

Last update as it appears that there is not much interest in this theard. The dealer stated that they dont have a ETA for a new transfer case, looks like another two weeks that would put me at the limit for the Lemon Law. In wisconsin if they cant get it fixed in thirty days you can get your money back I beleive.

Oh well thanks for listening.

If it comes down to that, if I can walk away even I will. I like the truck, but pretty frustrated right now.

ROOFING NAILS!!!!!!!!!!! you know your going to get a rep with this answer if you keep it up.

You would think they would be able to rebuild the old one, but probably is not cost effective for them to do so.

Cost effective? It's cheaper that you think...plus it can be done in a day, maybe two (for them). It also takes you out of a rental that they are paying for. Cost, it's more than just rebuilding the transfer case.

Roofing nails is the answer to everything. Whiskey is next. Sometimes both!
