Just as a FYI, there is Fed EX, which is a next day/2 day service, then there is Fed Ex Ground, which is a "when we get it there" service.

Fed Ex Ground will ship VERY heavy items................. often even heavier than what UPS will ship.

Fed Ex Ground is also VERY slow, and they often damage what they ship. This could be what happened to the first t-case.

I understand your frustration. However, it should be directed at this dealership only. If they wanted to practice good customer service, they could remove a t-case from an existing truck, and then replace it when "yours" comes in.

I would suggest that to the sevice manager along with the phrase "if this is not fixed within ________ days, the next time you hear from me will be from my lemon law attorney." This may get him off of his lazy a*s.

Good luck to you.

BTW, I think the reason for the lack of interest in this post is just that this is a singular problem that is really only a "problem" due to an incompetant dealership. While this is not an excuse really, for lack of interest............ it does make it a bit more understanding. However, I do understand that under the current circumstances, your understanding is pretty much used up.

Sorry about what you are dealing with. Some dealers really really suck, and one thing I have not seen mentioned here is to call Ford. They have a customer service line, and if Ford knows about it, and calls the dealer, then the dealer will really get off their ***. Nothing motivates a dealer than thinking they might lose their license to sell vehicles, especially for the number one selling company in the U.S.

This is the first time I have heard about a Tcase issue also, maybe this headache will end and you can enjoy a few hundred thousand trouble free miles with your truck. I agree that you should ask them to either give you a new truck (maybe even with more options) or swap the Tcase from another truck. They seem so sure that the new case will arrive, that they should have no problem putting their money down by taking it from a truck they might sell later.

Thanks for all the responses, the transfer case is in and they decided to replace the front right hub as well. They hope to have the truck back to me Monday. The thing that scares me is there was no warning on this I did not beat the truck or use it for offroading either. Is this typical of transfer cases and hub that they go out with no warning? In my old (late 70's) truck when the transmission was dying you could tell it was going to die.

Boy, that's a play on words. Have you ever had to call them? Have you ever seen comments on this board about them? I'd hate to have that job. How many compliments do you think people call in?

Kinda reminds me of my job

Finally got my truck back last night. Everything seemd fine as far as the transfer case goes. They did have to replace the right hub as well, but could not really tell me why this happened. They had my truck washed and waxed when I got there and it looked just as nice as it did the day I brought it home except................

The damn monkeys who took off my right front tire must have used a friggin crow bar on the damn thing. The center cap and rim were scratched up, so they are going to order me in a new rim and center cap.

Oh well otherwise everything seems to fine now.

You're not alone in the damage wheel boat. I forget who it was, but someone went to the stealer for a tire rotation, and they damaged all 4 wheels. I think they agreed to replace them as well.

Glad to hear you got your truck back. Sorry about the monkeys. At least they are making it right for you.

My truck with 2K miles on it just started doing this today. Took it to the dealership this afternoon. I hope this isn't the problem I have but the symptoms sound the same. It is a loud grinding sound when I accelerate. Let of gas and it stops put it in 4 HIGH and it stops.

I don't have time to dink with this stuff. I have loved this truck so far. Hopefully it isn't a big deal.

JDaddy,

Did they replace your transfer case.

So far they called me today said it is fixed. Some recall on a drive line part. I had my doubts. I went to pick it up got 100 yards and turned around. Not fixed at all.

So I took it back and went for a ride with the tech. At first he couldn't hear it then he finally did. Must of been deaf cause it sounds so bad to me. Metal on metal or something.

Well I call them before they closed and they said they hadn't located the problem but (i told them I need it for a trip I have to take tommorrow when I first dropped it off) it would be ok to take on the trip nothing that would cause problems. I am thinking yeah right it sure sounds bad.

Anyways I will post what I find out tommorrow. I miss the truck bad.:-( The wife's explorer doesn't hold a candle to that truck. So I hope they fix it fast.

Quick Update.

Turned out to be a bad Vaccum line that keeps the truck disengage when in 2H. At least that is what they told me. I got the truck back and no noise. I asked them if there was any damage done by having the front end not disengage when in 2H and they said no. Sure didn't sound good. Time will tell I guess.

Good to hear. Sorry I didnt see the question you asked me until now. They did replace my entire transfer case. The fork in the case was busted, this is the only case I heard of on this or the other three boards that I visit. Hopefully there was no damage and you can coutinue to enjoy your truck.

My '04 SCREW FX4 has started a noise like that occasionally. Metal to metal scraping sound, sounds like the transfer case, quits when 4H is selected. Does it once in a while. I haven't had time to get it checked out yet.

Did the vacuum hose fix work?

My truck has been doing the exact same thing. I drive down the road and it sounds like a chain is dragging under the truck. I let off the accelarator and it stops. Put it in 4HI and it stops. I took in in once for this and they said that they replaced the entire transfer case. Truck still made noise. They gave me the line that a bad vaccuum line of the transfer case caused the hubs to not be engaged and caused them to go bad. Replaced both hubs. Truck drove fine for 1 week and now it is doing it again! I'm really getting upset because this has been going on for over a month.
