crap :(

well, a couple weeks ago i was readjusting my bugshield since it sorta came loose...in the process of doing that i scratched my paint just at tad nothing noticable or outragous just a little scratch...so i went down to my ford dealer and got some touch up paint for my truck. on my way home i decided to stop at the local auto zone place to snag up some maguier cleaning supply since i was running short and wanted to get home to clean my truck up. well, low and behold my dumbass cut to hard as i was pulling out of the parkspot and ran my front right fender into a pole i wasnt paying attention which is totally my fault, but damn...now it has a hand sized dent in it along with some scratchs.

anyways i took it down to my ford dealer's part & service shop, but they dont have a body shop so they sent me to a local bodyshop / paint shop place....

the estimate is 700 bucks.

now i gotta save up to fix it!...and wont have the money for the lift / tires i wanted.....and today was supposed to be a great day.

oh quick questions. what do i do? should i report it to my insurance? or should i just save up and do the fix out of pocket? or can the dealership do something for me since the truck aint but a month old?.

thanks for the info in advance.

Damn, I feel for 'ya. On the bright side, your past the honeymoon phase and can enjoy your truck - I'm still in 'panic' mode about ANYthing scratching/chipping/dinging my baby...

I don't believe an accident is under warranty no matter how new it is! Don't I wish!

If you are getting a $700 estimate, I would report it and have an estimate from someone your insurance recommends. You may have to shop a round to find a better price, but I wouldn't sacrifice price for quality. You probably have a $500 deductible like the majority of us do, so you would only be out $500 instead of $700.

Just my thought.

Depends upon your deductible and your age.

That stinks! If its $700 and my deductible was $500, I would just bite the bullet and pay it out of pocket. You might be able to shop around and get it fixed cheaper. Just make sure they are doing quality work.

I feel your pain though...I'm picking my truck up on Monday from the body shop. They've had it for 4 weeks which is longer than i've driven it, replacing the whole back half after I got rearended. The kid who hit me was 16, so I would hate to see his insurance bill. The damage to my truck alone was over 8.5k.

thought about reporting it to the insurance company but im gonna bite the bullet and go ahead and pay out of pocket. i figure i'll finish paying off my 1k loan from my bank and snag up a 700 loan to pay for it so i dont have to "wait" to save up for too long.....

if i had my gun with my i wouldva unloaded a couple rounds into the friggin pole!...i swear! it wasnt there when i took the first glance back.

I have had AAA for 17 years.....with no accidents or tickets, the wife drove my previous 01 F-150 Scab and plowed into a cement filled post in a parking lot, cost to fix: $ 7,000.00, and AAA raised my rates by $ 360.00 at renual time.
And im in my 40's. Insuarance is such a scam.

$700 sounds about right for fixing a hand size dent and painting. I've gotten estimates for that much just to repair scratches. Sucks for you.
good luck

You have to watch out claiming on your collision insurance cause you might get a Surcharge tacked on. A lot depends on your Ins. Co. and your claims record. Try to claim it under comprehensive if you can. You might have to re-word how it happened a little, but it can be done.

Best thing to do would be to check around with friends, family ect and find someone that can do a side job for ya. I know you could get a quality job for alot less.

With your quote of $700.00, was that to replace the damaged fender, or to hammer out the old one? ( was new )

If you can, pay out of pocket, will be cheaper for you in the long run, We all have been thier a few times, Best of luck...

from the paper work the guy gave me at the shop it seems like its for a brand new fender?....i could be wrong. he went to his comp entered data into it and gave me an estimate. /shrug.

in the paper work it says something about 5 1/2 hrs on just one part of the job another 2-3 hrs on something else and another 1hr on something else as well.....he told me it'd take 2 days for my truck to be up and ready.

i was talking to my neighbor this afternoon and he said that he was having a friend doing some body work on his wife's car (who happened to run into a pole as well a couple of days ago!) he said he will be giving me the number to call the guy up.

im going to buff and polish the area up some tomorrow to atleast get rid of the big nasty black marks on it.

If ya can take a pic and post it so everyone can see the damage you may get better options. I's still find a decent body man to do it on the side.
