4.6 Owners, I gotta question....
Fellas, I should be able to get my new F-150 come the middle of June. One of the dealerships here locally has a Regular Cab 4x2 XLT with the 5.4 V8. That is what I really want. However, another local dealer has a 4.6 V8 STX Regular Cab 4x2. The difference in cost between the 2 trucks is about $3000.
The $3000 bucks is equivalent to about $60 to $75 in montly payments. Money is tight and my wife wants me to get the 4.6. I'm one of these guys who likes Horse Power and my future plans for the truck are to hook it up with 20's and make it look aggressive and mean as hell!
If you all have the 4.6, how do you like the performance? Is there enough aftermarket out there to make it a pretty quick truck? With gas mileage the same from the 4.6 to the 5.4, is it worth it to spend the extra money to buy the 5.4 for the 60 extra ponies?
Opinions are appreciated.

wouldn't it make sense to offer the 5.4L in the STX? I ran into the same issue and I caved and got the 5.4L XLT, but I don't have a significant other to deal with. Try looking for an XL with the 5.4L, the price difference between that and the XLT might be enough for you to outfit it like the STX but then again that is a lot of aftermarket work just to get back to STX like form. Man i'm no help to you, I'll shut up now

I have the 4.6 and personally im very happy with it, but after reading your post, i think you answered your own question.
Don't compromise.........especially when purchasing something your gonna use everyday and have for a long time.

Same problem here, I liked the looks of the STX but wanted the 5.4L. I opted for the STX supercab 4.6L. I think it runs good, it lacks the low end torque of the 5.4, but once you get rolling it feels strong enough. I'm actually pretty happy with the performance. Besides, if I need to race anyone i'll bring my 11sec Grand National
