Dampener & Vibration

Is it just me, or is this dampener coupler the biggest gimmick joke any of you have ever seen? I laughed so hard when the service guys showed me what they had installed.

Was supposed to also have my driveline replaced, but Ford sent the wrong one. Dampener didn't improve my vibration at all, at least it gave me a good laugh...

The service-tech said they will probably be replacing my rear-end, but have to follow TSB, so first have to replace my driveline. According to Service tech better than 50% of every Build1 F150 here in Alaska has the vibration problem. Ford engineers are on site, workin on problem.

Also, got my PCM reflashed, no improvement at all in throttle lag. I can still stomp then come off and RPM only varies +/- 100 r's. I've got an old 92 GMC Sierra, when you stomp it the back tires start smokin and squealing. I really miss that in my 04.

Build date was 10/03 5.4L FX4 3.55 LS rear-end.

All the new 04 f150's have the throttle lag because of the drive by wire.

I installed the damper, I think it looks pretty cool. Adds about 30 lbs but whats a couple of more to an already heavy truck.

I just picked mine up from the dealer. They replaced the entire rear end assembly and it still has a vibration. The ford rep was not able to look at it but is scheduled? to. I crawled around the underside to see what they had done. Really I was looking for the dampner? kit. I couldn't find anything. What does it consist of? This is the 3rd time in the shop and I am documenting everything, just in case.

The dampner kit consists of a black box with a rubber weight inside. You will find the box at the rear of the leaf springs. Just under the rear bumper.

SCT has a flash tune coming out that eliminates that lag completly. I have it for testing and it made it a completly different ride. It now feel like there is 300 hp (now 325) under the hood. I can still use reg gas but for more power you would use the higher octane. I use the mid grade 89 octane.

The gimmick:

I just find this so called "dampener" about as amusing as, "If you have red sneakers you can run faster"...

Well, I looked and I don't have the damper installed. Who came up with that fix anyway and is it really an acceptable repair? Why don't they just add another 1000 lbs to the truck and call it a done deal?

I've owned my 04 Screw for about two months now (and its been a grea truck) but recently have felt a vibration/shutter in the rear end, when taking off from a standstill, generally if I'm making a turn at the same time.
Is this the vibration others have felt?

And if so, would you let me know what trim of truck you have?
4x4?, lifted? 18" rims, 5.4, etc.

I have a feeling it is the Limited slip differential. Might not be rated well enough for this heavy of a truck.
So I curious to see if others with this issue have the same functional options.

Thanks,

William

Your vibration is from the rear end, there is a tsb with a fix for that. They replace the clutch packs. Most others are talking about a harmonic vibration that Ford has not fixed yet.

Here's TSB link:https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=150252

Also 4 days since getting dampener gimmick, no improvement in severity of vibration....

I am going down to our test lab tomorrow. i am going to install accellerometers on the frame (where the dampenere will be installed), on the end of the box, and on the seat mounting point.
I will record a speed bump input, and some potholes i drive every day and annoy the crap out of me. then try to duplicate with the dampener.

hopefully i will be able to show if there is an improvement, and also learn the natural frequency mode the frame is exciting at due to the road input

i keep all posted when i get data
