Cool Any Regrets on getting the 5.4?

Hi Guys... I was curious to ask if anyone was feeling any remorse on the 5.4 V8 motor verses the 4.6? or any other part of the truck they ordered or didn't order.... I will add that for me the 4.6 does the trick. I am totally satisfied with my truck and wouldn't change anything GG

I like the engine, it's the chassis vibrations that may make me shed myself of the truck.

I've never driven the 4.6, but even the 5.4 in its stock form doesn't have enough zip to get this 5300-pound monstor moving, IMHO.

Three things that I'm thinking I might possibly have wanted to do differently.

1. Get yellow instead of true blue. (Don't get me wrong. I love the blue. But the yellow looks really cool.)

2. Rear slider. (Probably because the weather is nice now. In the winter I was glad I had the rear defroster. But with all of the rear slider rattle problems, I'm glad I stuck with the rear defroster.

3. Sometimes I want a SCab instead of a SCrew. (But with a baby on the way, I think the SCrew was the right choice.)

If I had to do it all again, I'd probably get the two-tone paint.

I'd also definetly stick with a 6.5' box too, it 's surprising how much stuff is longer than 5.5'.

As for the rear slider window, I never sit in the back so I never use it, so it really is pointless for me.

The moonroof and rear slider work well together and in my opinion are a must. My only regret is not getting the audiophile sound system. I've got 5400 miles and no problems

I agree. I had a slider on my 99 extended cab and couldn't quite reach it from the driver's seat. Moonroof wasn't availible back then, though. When I got my Screw, I made sure to get the power slider, and I wanted the moonroof too. I use them both a lot to regulate airflow and wind noise.

I'm very happy with every option I had added. 5.4L engine was standard for me. Everything has worked out very well. I can't think of anything that really bugs me or things that I wish I had or didn't have.

I am confused, why would you have regrets about a bigger more powerful engine? If you mean do I wish I got the 4.6...NO.

No regrets with the 5.4 at all. Actually it was the only option with the Lariat. I did debate on getting the moonroof but I really like the rail storage system and with the heat in Texas I didn't feel I would use it all that much. I do like the slider window especially since I installed the SnugTop Shell. I sometimes wish I would of done the audiophile but I think I will just get a custom system added to what I already have. Overall very happy with the truck and looking forward to many years of driving it.

Regret the 5.4? No way. If Ford offered a 6.8L V-10, I'd go with that even if it got 6 MPG. The 5.4 is a little on the weak side. I would be very unhappy with the 4.6.

Other changes in hindsight:

Get Mirror Package. I don't park outside much, but when I do it's a pain to have dew on the side mirrors, heated ones would be real cool, and for the $165, well worth it.

Get Power Slider in the back. I wanted a window back there, but You can't really open it from the commander's seat. At least I can't at 5'8". Would be nice when reversing with a trailer.

That's it... hardly regrettable. I LOVE MY TRUCK!!!

I would have order the bright red FX4 instead of the silver metallic. As far as the 5.4 I had it in my last truck and it was one of my requirements for this truck.

I have no regrets getting the 5.4. I had a 4.6 in one of my previous F-150's, and it was a bit anemic. Since the '04 is heavier, the 5.4 is a must IMNSHO.

I have only one regret when it comes to the 5.4 engine. That is the price of gas! And it keeps going up.. Other than that I love the 5.4 engine and everything else about this truck.

I like the 5.4 as compared to the 4.6 I had on my '01 Screw. I was expecting a sizeable decrease in gas mileage, but I'm on average on .3 mpg less with the 5.4. I'm happy about that and the increase in power was significant (even though others here think it's still not enough). I also kind of suprised that no one has mentioned the back up sensor. IMHO, it's one of the best "new" features on the truck. I don't know about others, but it gives me a lot more peace of mind when backing up with these redesigned big butt-ed trucks. Now that I have it, I'll never have another truck without it. Heck, it even potentially saved me from backing over my neighbors dog just a few days after I got the truck. I also agree with others about the electric rear slider. Its a nice way to adjust airflow into the cabin.
