4.6 is not as lethargic as some think

Yes, i chose the 4.6, based on the fact that i do not tow anything, and the deal i got on the truck.
Anyway, while driving to work today, i was doin about 45 mph, there was a bus at a bus stop ahead of me, (bus takes up 1/2 of the lane i was in) unloading passengers, like everyone else, I didn't want to get stuck behind it, as i pull up to it, i see the bus driver is putting the reflective triangles behind it (must of broke down), looked in my side mirror and saw too many cars in the left lane for me to go around it so i came to a full stop. As i looked in my rear view mirrow, the lady behind me had cut off the car behind her in the left lane and was waving me over to GO!, so i floored the truck and it (to my surprise) actually spun the back tires for about 1/4 length of the bus and thats with the LS diff.
What can i say......its the little things in life that makes me ..

I think it could have just a tad more response, but it gets me 16-17 mpg with lots of hills, highway, and downtown Austin traffic mix. Not bad for a truck this heavy.

Im very happy with my 4.6. At first I thought I made a mistake, but the truck has 500 miles on it now and its breaking in nice. I had trouble getting use to the throttle. Sometimes its there and other times...well i dunno its totally different ball game compared to my old junk box!

Th 4.6 has been around for a while. Its really seems easy to get a little more power out of them too. Doesnt sound to bad for being a small eight!

4.6L

Hi All:

I'm very happy with my 4.6L. It has all the power I need. It a gets me right up to 80 mph, and has plenty of power of pickup. Best of all, I have been getting 16.8 - 19.5 mpg with it.

I think it's an excellent engine, that's been around a while! It certainly suits my needs.

Joe

I love my 4.6L. I put 315's on it and I was worried about losing alot of power. It still has all the power I need and I still get decent gas mileage. 14-19 depending. My truck is a 98, I drove a 98 with the 5.4 and it wasn't all that great. Love my 4.6L

First of all, for those of you getting over 16 mpg's.......I HATE YOU...... j/k. I unfortunately am lucky to get 13 mpgs, I would almost give my left nut to get 16.

I'm happy with the power of my 4.6......but the throttle delay from stand still is a bit annoying. If I'm rolling, there's no problem, she gets up there with the best of them.
