Vibration redux
To recap from a recent post -
The appointment with the Service Manager (SM) was this morning, a Ford engineer (FE) was to be at the dealership to examine my truck. I was supplied with a rental car, which I fully expected for a warranty repair issue.
The SM called and related that the FE drove the truck and found two harmonics, one caused by the steering rack, the other by the driveshaft. The FE also measured the companion flange (connects the driveshaft to the rear-end) for run-out, and found it in spec.
The steering gear is said to be a production date issue and comes as a complete unit, rack / pinion, from knuckle to knuckle. Of course a new driveshaft is also on order.
The parts will be here in a few days, so will advise.
I have but 1,800 miles on my new truck, have replace the BFGs (road force balanced) which helped some. On some surfaces, the truck is "limo" smooth. On others, the truck does the "booga-loo". There are a number of TSBs; LS diff, rack and pinion lash, driveshaft, etc. which I plan on exploring.
