Why is the 2004 F-150 better?
Why is the 2004 F-150 better?
Why is it better than the Dodge, Chevy, Nissan or Toyota? Not so much looking for opinions here as facts. I personally wouldn't have anything other than a Ford, but I'd like to have something to back that up in an argument. What do y'all say?

Fords have always held up best when it comes to rough work. 80% of the work trucks/vans I see are Fords. Not to mention I saw where the frame on the new Fords are 4 times stiffer than the '03s. On the other end of that, when I buy I vehicle, I have to like the way it looks, first and foremost. Anyone who can't admit Ford has the best looking truck on the market is on crack.
I've never driven anything but Ford trucks, so I can't give a comparison. However, I've never had an urge to switch, so that's got to be worth something.
The new F150 is the quietest truck I've ever driven in. In fact, it's the quietest vehicle I've ever driven.

The best argument in the world to justify whatever vehicle you drive is:
Its your money and you bought what you feel is the best truck on the market.
I don't justify my purchases to anyone. To each his own.

I'm new here and have been spending most of my time on an RV forum where there are a lot of threads about towing performance and different tow vehicles. From what I read there I would conclude the following:
Chevy has a LOT of issues with power. When someone gets a new one they immediately post how great it is then within a few days they're asking how they can get more towing power. GMC, obviously the same thing.
I kind of get a kick out of the Hemi guys that are so excited about getting their trucks then talking about towing at 4,000 RPM and wondering why.
I haven't owned Chevy or Dodge but I can sure tell you that my previous TV was an 01 F-150 5.4 7700 GVWR and my new HD is a huge improvement over that one, and I loved my 01.

for info on the 2004 ford truck improvements as compared to ford year 2003, read the ford sales brochures . When comparing brand x to brand Y, depending on how you will use truck, pay particular attention to the torque and horsepower numbers (especially the rpm at which the peak torque is reached). ford excels at producing high torque at low engine speed.
Bottom line----- there is no "Best" truck. Depends on what truck features you want, how you will use it, what image you want to project, etc

pick the trucks you are interested in and compare them "9 ways to sunday". i researched my truck purchase for years before i bought. everyone has their own opinions, but i like to work from facts (data - i'm an engineer).
as mentioned above, no one truck has EVERYTHING you want, but determine what you can and can't live without.
example - i really wanted a dual zone temp controls in my truck (i'm married) but the F150 doesn't have it, same thing with full time "smart" four wheel drive.... F150 doesn't have it. but the others don't have reverse sensing system, great stopping (some truck brakes are pathetic), a moonroof, and the great ride, handling and quite.
figure out which one comes closest to what you want and buy it. in today's world of high technology and world-wide competition, all "popular" truck products are very good.

Since buying a 2004 F-150, my hair has grown back on top of my head, I've lost 4 inches around my waist, gained a few inches "elsewhere", lowered my mortgage interest rate, reduced my overall debt, I look and feel younger, my lawn has never been greener, my dog obeys all of my commands, and the Baltimore Orioles have somewhat of a respectable team this year.
I can't see the above listed results happening if I bought a Dodge HEMI truck.
Yeah, it's gotta be the Ford.

If you want a truck that is a quiet ride, built sturdy with a nice interior get a ford.
If you want a truck that is fast and handles good, but it definitly more truck like, get a Dodge.
If you want a truck that is low to the ground and rides like a car, and has lots of options get a Chevy.
If your don't like domestic vehicles then get a Titan or Tundra.
They all have there advantages and disadvantages, I went with Dodge because I needed a truck to do truck duties and fullfill my need of having something decently quick. It also hauls stuff nice as I just took several loads of crap to the dump with it yesterday, it did just fine, regardless of the hemi being a high reving engine, a world of a difference over the 5.9L it replaces.
If I couldn't get a Dodge I'd get a Ford, they are nice rides.

This is my first full size truck but I researched my purchase for about 6 months before I bought one. My reasons were based both on appearance and performance. Things I liked that the other makes didn't have:
* rack and pinion steering (VERY nice, super on the road)
* outboard mounted shocks in the rear for better shock performance. Check on some of the Chevys...the shocks are practically in the center of the axle! The Avalanche however has them outboard.
* NICE engine (5.4L). As a standard engine on the Lariat, you can't beat it. All around good performance. Not a race car, no...but I didn't plan on racing it anyway
*Excellent seats with the base 40/20/40 'bench' seat. Trust me, this isn't your daddy's bench seat from 10 years ago. This is practically a bucket seat and it's great.
* Noticably deeper bed. Even deeper than the F-250 that I looked at...liked the 150 better in this area
* lockable tailgate. 2004 Silverado I looked at didn't have one (and that was even a decked out LT model!) good grief
* standard 18" wheels on the lariat...nice
* no freakin' daytime running lights on Ford. I hate daytime running lights. I'd take the bulbs out if I had a GM car with them (the ones that use separate bulbs for DRL)
* seemed to be more room in the SuperCab than there was in the Silverado. I could sit back there comfortably myself.
* better looking than the other makes, inside and out (in my opinion). If it weren't for the Ford redesign, I most likely would have bought a GMC or Chevy. I get GM employee pricing too...so it was in my best interest to buy GM.
* premium vinyl for rear seat in extended cab much better quality than that of the vinyl in the GMC and Chevy (looks cheap). FYI - the rear seat in super cabs with 'leather' seats are vinyl, not leather. Fronts are leather.
* double wishbone suspension in the front with coil over shocks.
*almost forgot, much quieter ride in Ford than the others I tested.
I guess that's enough. I was comparing standard features all the makes, what I needed or wanted, etc. Chevy actually has much more features and available add-ons than Ford...but I still couldn't resist the Ford. I sure wish the Lariat had the standard Bose system that Chevy had though (on LT trim). That was nice.
