Testing new Superchips Custom Tuning
Testing new Superchips Custom Tuning
Jim at JDM put me in touch with the people at Superchips Custom Tuning and they flashed my computer with the new tune they will be coming out with for our 5.4 3V engines. All I can say is holy sh!/. Now that's what 300 hp is suppose to perform like... well really it's now about 325 hp, (I have the mild tune). You just won't believe the difference... the power is right there the instant you push on the go peddle, no lag. It shifts firm when you get on it but it's not harsh. What a transformation. This thing leaps out of the hole burning rubber. I am one lucky sob to have this tune now.
When this is released it's a must have.

I sure would like to see some dyno graphs from them

The Custom Performance PCM re-flash by Superchips Custom Tuning has been available from Troyer Performance for a while now. Mike Troyer (Superchips_Distributor) has made several posts in this forum and the Computer Chips forum describing what the re-flash does for these trucks and the dyno results they got on their truck. Here is what he wrote about the power gains as measured by an eddy current dyno: "We saw increases in *peak* power of 24 HP & 40+ lbs./ft. of torque at the wheels on 93 octane, and 13 HP gains on 87 octane."
I've had the the 93 Octane performance re-flash done on my truck. I've very happy with it, but I'm very careful to try not to make it sound like it turns the truck into a Lightning-like vehicle. It's still a 6000+ lb. vehicle...but now it performs really good for a 6000+ lb. vehicle.
When they come out with the CAN flashers for these trucks, I think they'll be a "must have" item for many of us.

Where have you been? Hows your truck? The last posts I remember from you, you weren't very happy...I thought you were going to trade it in.

I'm just curious. These chip burners say they can increase HP and fuel economy.
How come these folks aren't working for Ford? Why won't Ford get one of their own chips re-burned, then analyze it and use it for their own trucks?
You think they'd jump at the chance to post higher fuel economy and HP numbers when advertising the truck.

This question regularly comes up in the Computer Chips forum. Take a look at this recent thread: OEM Chips
Basically, it boils down to the fact that it is only practical for Ford to tune their vehicles so that they appeal to the broadest array of customers (not everyone wants a performance tune with higher rpms and firmer shifts)and so that the engines will run on even the lowest quality fuel that is fairly commonplace out there.

I talked to my dealer and he said to hold off till the '05s...I really like my truck, and it has been running pretty good for the most part, except with a few transmission concerns.
Looking back, I wish I would have kept my '99 F250....it had 80K miles on it and didn't give me any problems....and I only owed 10K versus 29K....lol. But I do really enjoy my 04.
I just gave my birthday list to my wife.....and all of it was for my truck, so I think I plan on keeping it.

I am still using 87 octane fuel (I was told it was a mild tune)... I hope that is still ok?

I try not to get caught up in the hyperbole with performance mods, but I certainly believe the PCM reflash will give the most noticeable and pleasing results for its cost ("The best bang for your buck.")

If that is what they tuned it to use, that is fine. They have different performance tunes that they can do: 87, 91, or 93 Octane.
Post a pic of your Cobra if you can.
