I realize you aske JohnAndDar this but, I talked to Troyer last Friday (04/16) and they had just received the newest parts from AFO. They had not real estimate on when they would get the system assembled, installed on their truck, and tested. So, it appears we are still a few weeks away.

neptun01,

I've got no special information, but Screwdrive posted this on 4/18:

I know that in the meantime, Troyer Performance is selling the Gen3 Airaid intakes, although I don't think they have them posted on their site. I spoke with Mike T. about them, and he said that they do help the 5.4 3v run better at the lower/moderate RPMs (which is great as they is where we do most of our driving), but about the same as stock at high rpms (if I remember the conversation correctly).
I am going to wait until the AF1s have been tested by Troyer to see if they have the lean condition issues resolved, then I'd like to see actual dyno results between at least the Airaid and the AF1 on the same truck before making a decsion to purchase. I'm not in a rush, yet.

Smile Not for nothing

A Chevy 2500 with a 6.0 engine pulled up next to me at a light, wanting to race. We where door to door until about 50mph then I just pulled away. I couldn't believe the barge was capable, even with the tune.

JohnandDar,

Thanks for the explanation. Seems to me that Ford would do well to make a performance option from the factory. Just imagine how many of the folks on this forum would have jumped on it! After the general public saw the increased HP and higher fuel economy with the option installed, I'll bet a bunch of people that aren't necessarily enthusiasts would add that option too.

Just my $.02.

jagged edge,
when you have your PCM reprogrammed with the performance chip, what happens when you need some warranty work done on your truck and the dealer hooks it up to the PCM, or does it effect anything? When I had my silverado, I had the Hypertech Programmer lll. But if I went to the dealer for work, I had to programe truck back to factory settings. Is this the same with the re-programed superchips?

Thanks,
axe124

Yes. It copies the stock program, so when you go in for a warranty issue you copy back the stock program.

jagged edge,

So it sounds like they didn't just re-flash your PCM. but they set you up with a tuner so that you can switch between stock and custom tune whenever you want...is that correct?
I didn't realize any CAN flashers were available yet.

No tuner just the flash for testing. The tuner is not available yet. there are only about 4 trucks with this flash tune to date. The tuner will be available soon. The throttle response, trans shifts and acceleration are a fantastic improvement over stock. I can still use 87 octane gas but the most hp gain is gotten from 93 octane. The mpg are improving but that may because the truck has only 2000 miles on it and as it gets more miles on it I would expect it to improve anyway.
It is really a night and day difference and something I'd pay to have. As for bringing it in for service without the ability to revert to stock at this time... I have a cool dealership. The flash allows the PCM to do what it's suppose to do un-like some add on chips so I feel it's not pushing the envelope. Besides it's not a race truck getting abuse. I tow my '03 Cobra to the race events and It does it a 100 time better than before the tune. When the tuner comes out I'll be gettng it.

jagged edge,

Thanks for the reply and clarification. In your reply to axe124 it seemed like you were saying you were already able to turn it back to stock if you wanted, that's why I asked. I, too, have had my PCM reflashed (with the 93 Octane tune) by SCT (purchased from Troyer Performance). I agree that the tune has been great. I, too, plan on purchasing the CAN flasher/tuner when it is available. It looks like it is still a few months away.
