Got my truck re-flashed today

Had the check engine light come on this morning so I took it to the ford dealer at lunch. Started BSing with the service manager and asked him if they were set up to reflash pcm`s. He said they were and asked me (couldnt belive it) if I wanted the latest code put in. Picked it up a couple hours later and heres what Ive found different:

1 Hesitation on gas pedal is almost non existant (was about 1/4 to 1/2 sec. before)

2 10-40mph downshifts from overdrive and 3rd to second are much smoother

3 50-65mph step on it to the floor now downshifts to second and holds till 80+mph (only dropped to 3rd before ,maybe second for only a couple seconds)

4 all wide open shifts are at 5000rpm now (was at 4700 before)

5 The 200 rpm difference seems to feel alot better (like it isnt ******* when shifting at full rpm to get back up to speed in the next gear)

6 Leaves black marks on pavement now

My build date was 11/03 Dunno what version was in it before, but it seems like ford has done some research and is addressing some problems in the new code. They didnt even bother checking the truck after, since the check engine light is off with the new flash.

They didnt even bother to test it till after the reflash, they found no problems after.

    Strange,

I had mine reflashed Tues, and I still have throttle delay. I wish I knew the reflash version so I could be sure I got the latest version.

Can you just slap the throttle down about 1/2 way real quick and immediately let off and get any response? Mine does nothing when I do that, my build date was 10/03, pcm code sticker is BME9. I'm curious if I can get that fixed. I haven't noticed any delay other than that mentioned above.

dgdee... I have the exact same thing in my lariat. I have never driven any vehicle that did something like this. Other than that, I haven't noticed any really bad hesitation. However, I cannot, on dry pavement, going straight, with limited slip 3.73, dream of laying black stripes on the pavement......I want a reflash.

    I have a 1999 with a 5.4L V8.

Can I get a reflash to the latest version?

What are dealers charging for this?

I don't think mine will lay any black marks either. I've only half azz tried and it didn't do it. Maybe tomorrow I will stop on some asphalt and stomp it to the floor, I have 5000 miles it should be ready. If the reflash changes it that much, I need it! I wonder if JohnAndDar can lay black marks, that person had a Troyer upgrade.

With all this talk about a re-flash, I called up my dealers service dept and asked if they knew anything about it. The service dept said they do have the latest flash updates and will run them next time I come in for service. I mentioned the rear end shudder (even though I have experienced it) and he said they check out all their trucks for it when they come in and when they are brought back in for service. I hope this re-flash does as you claim!!

The flash is downloaded to the dealer from a sattelite as soon as it is available. If you had your truck serviced on Tuesday, you had the latest version as of Tuesday.

Does anyone know when these new updates became available. I ordered my truck the first week in January and was built two weeks later. Just wondering if mine has the new updates?

    Just to clarify,

When I took my truck in Monday for hesitation problem, the service tech never said that the latest flash included a fix for hesitation. He just said since he just received a new version he'd go ahead and flash the PCM and see if it helped. Apparently it didn't, but I'm intrigued by those who posted recently that said the flash they received corrected or partially corrected their hesitation.

Could it just be that the reflash did nothing for the hesitation, but now the PCM has to "relearn" the driving habits of the owner? Since the odds are that people getting the reflash are no longer babying their truck through the break in period, maybe they just aren't as light on the gas as they were before?

I'm really trying to figure this out.
