Angry Paint Problem

On my passenger side rear door there is a grey spot (6inx6in in a circle) in my paint. Has anyone had any problems with their paint, or seen anything like this?

Out of curiosity, can you post a pic? It's hard to get a good sense of what it might be from in just a few words.

Register the problem with the dealer and get it fixed under warranty.

Good luck,

It would be hard to post a pic the sun has to be hitting it at the right spot.

It reminds me of oxidation. I attempted to wipe it with a wet rag, and it did not come off. I went over the paint with my hand it feels just as smooth as the rest of the truck.

I have a black FX4 and it had 2 spots like you are describing. You could only see them when the sun was hitting that side. It was oxidation. Take your finger and rub firmly and you will see it disappear. Take some bug and tar remover on a rag and it will remove it quickly, then rinse with water. I don't know why it oxidized in those 2 6x6 spots after only 4 months. I haven't noticed any more spots, but the sun has to hit it just right also.

Not sure if it's possible as it sounds like it's hit and miss but, I'd be EXCEEDINGLY interested in seeing some pictures of what you all are describing...

My 2 cents..... I had two places like you are describing on my black o4 and I have noticed similar cases on True Blue and T Red 04 F150s. It is not oxidation (in my opinion). I think the product being used at the factory to spot buff slight scratches or paint imperfections is hazing after time.

Pick up some Mother's Sealer/Glaze or Mequiars # 7 and go over the areas with an orbitor buffer - if you do not have one then apply by hand following the directions on the bottles. If that does not do the trick the hit the places with Mequiars NXT. NXT has a very ligth cleaning agent that is very clear coat safe.

I would not suggest taking it to the dealer for they will hit it with a high speed buffer and unless the person operating it has worked on show cars and treats you truch like a show car, you will end up swirls that will be worse than the haze you have.

Since I've only had the truck 3 1/2 weeks I think they should be the ones applying it by hand...When you spend $30,000+ on a truck you as the customer should not have to buy a product or put in the labor to fix something that is a manufacturing error...just my two cents...

It could also be a halo under the paint if for some reason the paint was repaired before you got the truck. They are caused by primer showing through too light of base coat in the repair. They are hard to see alot of times unless the sun hits just right. Did auto body and paint for 15 years and fixed quite a few of those. Normaly if the surface is oxidized, it is very noticebly on the surface where a repair would leave your head shaking because the clear coat will look good but there would be a light spot like your describing. If that is the case, it would have to be re-painted.

The dealer should take care of whatever it is but really take a good look at it when you pick it up. If you find the truck sitting in the shade when they want you to approve the job they did, make them put it out in the sun and really take a good look at it from close up to far away and walk around the area with the sun hitting it. If they hit your truck with a buffer and don't go through all the steps, it will definatley leave your nice black truck with swirls and you don't want that! Whatever you do, don't pick it up in the dark!

I have a similar problem on my black 04 Screw. The driver side passenger door shows swirls marks and if you look closely you can see defects in the paint that are close to a grey color, but not circular

Grey Color?

Does it look like Primer grey. Like if the paint is "thin" there and you are seeing Primer?

I took it to the Ford dealership today, and they sent me to a body shop. The body shop polished it and put a wax on. I can't see the discoloration any longer. Hopefully problem solved.

Calling cdemot02--paint problem revived

cdemot02,
have you noticed those spots coming back on your truck since you got it fixed?

I noticed today on my tailgate 2 spots that are irregular in shape and about 2-3 inches across that are lighter than the rest of my truck. I tried to post some pics click here Not the greatest pics, but if you look close you should be able to see them. Is this what your's were like. Slightly discolored, a couple of shades lighter than the rest of the paint.

Should I take this to the dealer or try to buff it out myself? I rather do it myself than have to leave it at the dealer, unless I need it repainted.

I've had my truck for about a month now and this is the first I have noticed it. I did the Meguiar's 3 step on it a week after I got it and did not notice it then.

I ran into a similar problem with my 2004 Black F150 SuperCrew 4x4. Along both sides of the bed, the drivers and passenger side lower half of the truck and the hood. Looked like it did not get painted right from the factory. Took it to ford and they repainted all of it. The Service Manager told me that they have seen imperfections like this in a number of trucks.
