4X2 STX or 4X4 XLT????
I have a decision to make. Do I buy a 04 REG Cab 4x2 STX 4.6 or a 04 REG Cab 4x4 XLT???
I like both for various reasons. I like the STX because of the painted bumpers and believe it or not I actually like the vinyl flooring. Power Windows and Locks would be nice, but the aftermarket can handle most of that.
I like the XLT 4x4 for the obvious ability of four wheel drive, but I also like the creature features of the XLT.
Both are Silver, both have the 4.6 V8.
What I actually wanted was a REG Cab 5.4 V8 XLT 4x2. But there aren't any in any of the dealerships in NC, SC or VA. Hard to believe but it's true. I can't order one because I need the value they are giving me for my trade.
Feedback on either of these trucks is appreciated!

Go with the 4x4, I wouldn't buy a truck without 4WD, but i have to deal with a lot of nasty winter driving. Too bad they can't find a 4x4 STX for you, but if you are going to upgrade to power options aftermarket you might as well get the XLT. I know what you mean about the vinyl, so much easier to clean, I wish Ford had a carpet delete option like on GMC trucks. Its nice that they are both Silver, I love the color. I ordered a Silver Scab XLT (4x4 of course) and i'm waiting for it to come in.

So... basically your plan is to buy everything the XLT comes with, but for an STX, and at an aftermarket price?
Buy the XLT 4x4, take out the carpet and put in a vinyl floor. That way you get the 4x4, the creature comforts, and you fill the need to put something aftermarket on the truck.

Ive got an XLT 4X4 and love it. If you need the 4-wheel drive get it. If you plan on adding all the XLT stuff aftermarket why not go ahead and get it now. You can always add the Husky Liners or Nifty Catch-Alls or one of the other brands to cover the carpet, or take the carpet out and replace it wit a rubber replacement from someone like Auto Custom Carpets (ACC). It will save you money in the long run, plus the better trade-in if you decide to ever sell.

Isn't that $1000 for the FX4, assuming the XLT package already has the 5.4?
So it's really almost $2000 more to get the FX4 from an XLT with the 4.6L.
Right? I haven't looked at the pricing lately.

just another vote for the XLT 4x4
I shopped for two years before buying my first new truck. Getting close to a decision time, a Dodge truck salesman told me:
"Look guy, this is your first new vehicle, right? Do it right, option it out and you'll never be sorry".
He was right on that......7 years later and still can't quit starring at it and playing with all the buttons.
Too bad for him though, since I went with Ford.
Oh well, we were both right, what can I say?
