Day Three (3) in shop...

This is rediculous!!! They have had my vehcile for 2 days and now they tell me that they have to keep it ANOTHER day. Now they have have put everything back into the truck and missed a "pinion" They are waiting for that to get there.

"Oh, we didn't know we had to replace that too. We called Hotline and they said we did." DUH!!!

I would think they would have thought about everything before hand...

Guess I was wrong, huh?

Am I asking for to much?

YellowFX4SCrew,

You have my empathy. I hope that they get all the problems fixed for good so that the delay is worth it.

It sounds like (based on several of your posts) it might be worthwhile to try out another dealer the next time you have a service issue...just to see how they compare.

Good luck,

I asked for a loaner TRUCK and they could not get one. They were ready to put me into a Focus. No thank you.

I work at a Saturn Store as the Finance/Business Manager. I just took a new car from work. Save me any headache of yelling at them because of my dissappointment with their service and customer satisfaction.

YellowFX4SCrew,

Sorry to hear about the delays. I know it's gotta be tough to be without for that long. I'd be PO'd too.

It's hard to get enough experience on new technology fast enough and it seems to be hard to get good training for techs these days...Or is it vice-versa?

Best of luck on gettin it back tommorrow better than new.

zeroxman1...

CSI???

I know our CSI reports on a 1-100 scales so I would assume theirs does to.

So, this will probably be the first time they have ever received a 0.5 on the CSI. Hopefully, their paypal is partial CSI scores.

Yellow,

Man I feel for you, it sounds like the mechanics arent up to par on rear ends. The ring and pinion gears are matched after wear. Thats why they are sold in sets. The best way to wear one out quickly is to put one wear pattern part with another different one or with a new one without a wear pattern. They are supposed to wear in together. I hope they know you have to set-up a rear end for proper backlash and gear mesh. Maybe you should ask to see their credentials. I do hope that they fix it correctly for you and get everything else fixed too, so you can start really enjoying your good looking truck.

Grayflare,

Thanx, I DO enjoy my truck. Even after all of the crap happening, FORD still did an outstanding job! I get to go pick it up this evening. They were just taking it down off the rack. Then they told me they would reprogram it.

I'll let you know how it all turned out. Hopefully this thing is as good as new!

Well, got my truck back. Still the howl at 52 mph. They kept my #$*%@^ truck for 3 days and made it quieter but didn't fix it. They said the noice was normal! I said "The noise wasn't there before you put in the clutch pack?" No response.

I don't know what to do...

Sorry to hear your problems. The "pinion" gear that they are referring to is inside the differential case that encloses the clutch pack, 2 axle gears, and 2 pinion gears. There is also a ring and pinion gear set that GreyFlare refers to. The clutch pack facing deteriorates in the grease and goes thru all the bearings. One, they either did not set the rearend up correctly after removing the main carrier case to install the clutch packs or two, the bearings in the rearend that are on the pinion and side differential bearings are bad. They need to take the rearend back out and replace the ring and pinion gear set and all of the bearings in the rearend and then be reinstalled and set up correctly. If they won't do it, take it to another dealer. You have to be nice but firm. Being nasty won't get you anywhere. Go in person, talk to the service manager, and tell them again the noise was not there until after the rearend was repaired. Get a loaner car/truck and tell them to call you when it is done. If they have to order a complete new rearend and axle housing assy, do so. If a shop has 10-12 tech's, they probably only have 1 that can set up and shim a rearend correctly. Get the right tech on the job. Long winded post but I know what I am talking about in this area. Most topics I only know enough to be dangerous.

Your dealer needs to check the axle run-out (God, I hope you don't need to tell them this).

Boatman has this one pegged. They didn't shim it right when putting it back together.

I have a 3.73 LS, and NO, differential whine is NOT normal.

You could check the run-out yourself if you had the tools (or a friend like me that does) but damn, if they missed the boat on this I'd be raising some serious noise.

This is mechanics 101.

Have you considered a new dealership? I bought my truck in Tucson, AZ and when I took it in for its first oil change I asked them to look into the stearing wheel nibble, rear end shudder and vibration. The result...they couldn't reproduce any of it! Took my truck into a dealer here in San Diego and only mentioned a knocking noise from the rear seat, a loose drivers seat and rear end shudder and badaboom..fixed. I will now take it in for the vibration and steering nibble once a more concrete fix is found to see if it can be fixed. I too love my truck.
