Thank the politicians, insurance companies (greedy ones only) and the thieves/criminals for the high rates in some areas. Did I miss anyone?
You missed the uninsured, the reckless, the illegal aliens and mother nature of course.

WOW!!! I have the highest coverage you can get with a $250 deductible and mine is only $524 a year, yes a year not every 6 months. What's up with such a huge difference in prices!?!

Nick_FX4, along with the Geico's of the vehicle insurance world, you should call my agent. She's really good ... and quite a few of my friends have gone with her in the past few years because her pricing was so good. My family started with her dad over 30 years ago, and she took over the business. Her info is as follows:

Paige Ott
Farmers Insurance Group
443-5104

It's free to call!

As for myself, I don't know what my insurance rate is yet. I haven't gotten my first "truck only" bill yet. For a little while after getting my truck, I had my car on the policy as well. Otherwise, I'd let you know what I'm paying.

HOOK'EM!!!

Well ive got an 03 base model everything f150 and I pay close to around 1300 every 6 months! i am 17 driven for a year and have zero tickets or accidents. Alos i get 20% distount for good grades in school. I live in LA. I live on the border line or Long Beach if that helps. Also i have state farm insurance with FULL coverage. Your all should be for your low arss insurance rates.

Nick, I believe that when MEN turn 25, that's when they begin to see their rates lower. Another factor is getting married. Not that I'm saying to go out and get married, but that is an option.

I pay about $1020 a year and that includes $29 a year for GAP coverage which I would recommend for everybody that buys a new vehicle, you loose a lot of value once your vehicle is titled. Mine includes 2 tickets.

I am stunned at some of the prices you guys are paying, the 17 year old at $3600 a year OMG.

Those of you that are paying $500-700 a year, mind posting your insurance carrier?? I'd like to get a quote. Some of you guys are talking about safety rating that came out........when did it come out?

Thanks,
TJ

There is also a price reduction at 21 in Texas. Seems like it was about $500/year when my son turned 21.

Whatever the agency is that does the crash tests did it on the '04 F150 in about the November - December timeframe. It was all in the news and on the board.

I use a local insurance agency called Greenway but they are just a broker. My actual insurance is with Travelers. My brother is a doctor and he calls State Farm (Snake Farm) because they always refuse to pay. So I wouldn't recommend them.

Well all this information really does help out alot. I think I'll be calling Geico, Progressive, Farmer's, and Allstate and get quotes from them. I figure that I can pay a max of about $400.00 per month for insurance, so anything at that price or lower, I can deal with it.

Besides, I am getting married in the near future once I graduate so that should help out with the rates too.

OMC...........

In short, when you drive off the lot, you take a hit in depreciation on your vehicle, so now your vehicle is worth less than what your loan is, as you drive and put miles on, the reduces it's value as well. So, GAP coverage essentially is insurance on your vehicle for in case it is totalled and lets say you owe $20,000 on your truck, but the market value is $15,000, the GAP coverage makes up the difference. If you dont have GAP and you run into the same situation......guess what????? You end up having to come up with the $5000 difference. Like I said, with Travelers it is $29 a year. Most dealers will try to sell it to you when you buy, mine tried to and they offer it for $300-$500. You really only need the coverage for about 5 years, by then, you've either paid of the vehicle, or the loan to value has evened out.

I hope this helps.

TJ

Ps........Thanks Trukmuper. I've only had my '04 for about 2 months, so I didn't see the ratings come out. When I saw people talk about them, I thought there were new ratings out.

Teck........keep in mind buddy, you are only 20. You get punished for that in the Insurance world because they think you've got that major testosterone flow and you haven't gotten the speed demon out of your blood......regardless of your driving record.

When was the last time you did any shopping for insurance?

I'm paying $762 a year for my 4.6L STX Reg Cab. Ohio, 38, clean driving record. The same amount I'm paying for my 2000 Mustang 3.8L.

18 year old male, suburban NYC
i was quoted $7500 from 4 different insurance companies
no accidents/tickets
What a joke. Why don't they just tell the truth and say "We won't insure you." No one is going to pay $7500 / year for insurance. I'd walk my A## to work everyday before I gave in to that.

A friend of mine was quoted $2500 / year to add his 16 year old daughter to his insurance. My kids are going to hate me cause there is no way I'm helping (or allowing) them pay $2500 a year for insurance. It'll probably be alot more than that in 5-6 years when they're 16 too.
