First oil change...check it out...

I changed my oil at 750 miles just because I like to be paranoid and figured it's a good idea after break-in of a new engine. WELL...I did this on a sunny day and when I pulled the oil drain pan out into the sun, it looks like I was 'pannin' fer gold' and came up with a bunch of gold dust! I saw what looked to me like teeny tiny bits of metal...kinda like a metal flake in a paint job. It sparkled in the sunlight. So, say what you want and call me a liar or call me paranoid and I changed the oil too soon, but I'm just telling you what I saw. It was visible without straining to see it. I just happened to catch a glance at it and I thought 'dang!'...'that's a lot of metal in there'. So that's why I like to change it early after a break-in. Don't worry, I'm sure everything is just fine, it's normal.

I used a Motorcraft FL-820-S oil filter and Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend to replace the factory stuff. About $21 total for the parts.

I think you're a liar AND paranoid.

Naw, man. I believe you. What ever you say.

I changed oil/filter at 1000 and 5000 miles and, despite an intense scrutiny of the oil under both natural and artificial light, could not find a trace of metallics. Hmmm!

Did your filter canister have an element in it?

Me neither

I did an oil change at 1200 miles, and I didn't see one bit of metal or anything else nasty in my oil either.

Not sure what that means though. Perhaps my metal bits got sucked into the oil filter where I didn't spy them.

All the metal flakes, if there were any, would have been on the bottom, they don't float. Today's motor's don't have the filings of years past, they are machined differently. But if you are right there are going to be a lot of motors out there in bad shape.

How do you figure? Just because he had metal is his oil doesn't mean anybody else will.

Could be this engine was on the tight tolerence side, like piston/rings on the high side and the bore on the low side dimension wise. This could explain the excess metal from the rings seating?

All I know is, it runs great and is a very strong engine I love it.
