21.6 Mpg !

Just averaged 20.4 MPG on a 300 mile out and back trip! The out part was 21.6, used the A/C on the way home. 5.4, 3.55 gear.

no offense, but you're calculating wrong...

unless you were going downhill and in neutral the whole way...and even then I doubt it.

I believe it, especially if you didn't have to fight any winds and were keeping in the 55 to 65 mph range. Long stretches of FLAT highways make a big difference. Vocabulaic used to post a lot about how high his gas mileage was compared to what others were getting--he lives in Florida, too (and has a 4x2).

Most of us have a lot of hills/mountains to contend with and these trucks have a lot of weight to drag uphill against gravity.

Be aware that the truck's computer mileage computations seem to run a little high (.2 to .3 on my truck).

Taildragger, out of curiosity:
1) What do you think your avg. speed ranges were on that trip?
2) 4x4 or 4x2?
3) How many miles on your '04?

well, maybe he does....

all I can say for sure is that I get 13-14 mpg driving all highway at 75mph - no hills.

And that's a 4.6 4x4 regular cab with 3.55s

Most of the time mine gets about 16, thats mixed use driving, up and down small hills etc. About the only time it gets over 20, is at about 55mph on flat ground, one hill will knock it back to 18, and the second hill knocks it back to 16. The worst I have ever seen on it is about 14, lots of stop and go, with lots of idle time, sometimes as long as 10 min.

you guys should calculate it yourselves and then compare it to what the trip meter is telling you.

5.4L, 4x4 crew, 3.55s, I also get 13-14 on the highway. I'm a bit unhappy about the gas mileage, I expected to get 16 when I bought the truck. Hopefully as the motor wears in a bit mileage will go up.

I agree with JonandDar that you should check your actual mileage as opposed to relying on what the "computer" tells you. I've got an 04 Lariat Screw 4x4 with the 5.4 L. In the 10,000+ miles I've driven it, my ACTUAL mileage average is 14.38 mpg. My computer average on the other hand (I track both) is 14.79. I drive roughly a 50/50 split of highway (avg. speed 70 mph) and in town driving. I've seen an "actual" high of 16.29 mpg (computer said 17.1 mpg) for a tank and an "actual" low of 12.61 mpg, also for a full tank. I think the best thing I like about the computer is that it gives you feedback about how you're doing on a particuliar tank and (at least for me) allows me to adjust my driving habits accordingly...............AND allow me to make the house payment.

All in all, I'm relatively happy about the mileage for this truck. My '01 Lariat Screw 4x4 with the 4.6L averaged 14.95 over 68K of driving. This truck is certainly worth the .57 mpg loss as compared to the '01.

Yeah, I'm hoping once broken in I get better mileage...

I'd be content with 15 or 16

I get about 12-14 city driving, and 15 - 16.7 (max that I've checked so far) highway. Currently at about 6300 miles. So, it may get better for you.

4X2 Lariat SCREW, 1,500 on the odo. This trip was admittedly to see what would happen If I tried. Started in Ft Meyers and drove the "back" roads to Orlando and back. About 300 miles. I didn't hold up traffic, passed quiet a few. Don't think I got over 70 except for a stretch of I-4. I learned to drive the tranny. Let it shift up, lock the torque converter and accelerate on the bountiful torque, Yes, I had to check aggressiveness at the door.
