Mine did it for the first time this morning. I have around 5000 miles on the truck. I was backing out of a parking spot when the wrench light came on. The truck was sputtering and vibrating. I pulled back into the parking spot and shut the truck off. I immediately turned it back on and the light did not come back on. It drove home fine.

I was really hoping I'd miss out on all of this....

Mine went into failsafe a couple days ago, I did a restart and all is well but from what I'm reading it's not going to be for long.
Truck was built 15 Jan 04 it has 5000 miles on it.

My engine went into failsafe mode for the first time at 8000 miles. It happened 3 times in a 2 hour period. My dealer updated my pcm with the latest flash and its been 2 weeks with no more problems. I have 10,000 miles on the truck now.

Mine is finally fixed after numerous stops to the dealer. They replaced throttle body and flashed the pcm. No problems so far.

I had the engine failsafe mode come on once since I've had the truck and I now have 3,000 miles on it. Maybe its possible to get it once and not again. I hope so.

It's back

Truck went into failsafe this morning, restarted and it ran good but check engine light stayed on.
It goes in tomarrow, really makes me nervous because they claim they know nothing about this problem.
Well now I'll find out about there service, already balked on a loaner, pi$$ed me off because I discussed this with the salesman before the sale.
When we get done with Ossama it would be nice to rid the world of the likes of salesmen.

Yes, this has happened to me as well. In fact, here are the links to the entire saga that I dealt with .....

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

After the last PCM update, the engine in failsafe mode problem has not returned. NOTE: This PCM update does not fix the throttle lag problem, if you have that. I have a reponse on page #2 of this thread about that.

Truck went in this morning for the failsafe/engine light, I asked that they keep me informed and surprised me by calling 2 hours later to say that the code pointed to a known problem and that they were updating the PCM.
He said that Ford recomends that they drive it several times during this process, I'm picturing 4 greasy mechanics climbing in there at noon and heading down to the local gin mill for lunch.
I'm going to try to remain optomistic.

Fail safe mode

My 04 Lariat with 1600 miles has been towed twice. THe message center flashes failsafe mode/ trans malfunction, wrench light on, and OD light flashes. THe first time was with 800 miles and they did the reprogram and here we are again. I noticed a large increase in power after the reprogram but gradually it lost the power. The same thing happened to a friends truck. I drove his after the reprogram and it had loads of power. My point here is if you feel you have lost power from the first drive of your truck... you will probably see this happen to you. THe throttle body issue almost makes sense as for the power loss but there are several codes being registered... 14 the first time.. this has to be PCM related as well. I would see this as a daisy chain of issues. I am in agreement with most new f150 owners,. the truck is awesome .. just fix it

I had the PCM update about 5 days ago. So far, knock on wood, no problems with the Check Engine or Wrench light coming on.

I had my first (and hopefully last) failsafe mode event this morning. As I put it in drive, there was a beep and the display showed failsafe mode. Shut it down and restarted ok. Has run fine since. I have 3300 miles.

You'll probably get it again. Give it about a week or two. Sometime in there it'll probably happen again. If/when it does, it'll be time to take it to your dealer for the PCM update.

My failsafe mode problem still has not returned since the PCM update I got and my last message to this thread. The throttle lag problem still stinks, though.
