Thats right got em installed today! I wish my truck was clean but its been snowin this week. Check em out. The truck looks 100 times more aggressive now. No more big car tires. Definetly a must!

Btw: what do soem of you think is a good psi to run them at. Right now I have them at 40psi. Max is 50.

Thnx

285/60/18. The pics do them no justice. When I pulled up to pick up my truck I was in awe. The stock tires do nothing for the truck.

You gave up about half an inch in tire height. I'd like to see a profile shot of the truck when you get around to it.

I put the tires next to my truck before I put them on. If I had to say one sat higher then the other, I would say the Nittos did. It was prolly just my eyes playin tricks on me from the tread being so big. I remeber reading in another post about the size difference being very very small. I cant tell a difference. Also once I get the DJM rear shackles that I ordered, it will fill in the rear wheel well nicely.

Ill take some side shots tommorrow so I get a good before/after for the shackles. I wish I would of taken pics before I got my tires installed. Its been cold and snowin in NJ since I picked up my truck.

Lost an inch? Maybe/maybe not...

I used to have a tire height, wheel calculator bookmarked, but since I have a new machine now, I never copied over my old favorites... Anyhoo...

When you get a wider tire and a lower aspect ratio, it doesn't automatically mean you lose tire height. If you replace a 255/70/16 with a 295/60/16, the tire may actually be taller than the 70 series because the sidewall height is 60% of 295 whereas the skinny tire has 70% of 255 as it's sidewall thickness.

So, in some instances, a wider-lower profile tire can be as tall, or taller than a narrower, higher aspect tire.

Found it-

I found this formula on How Stuff Works.com.

To calculate the overall diameter of a tire, multiply the tire width by the aspect ratio to get the height of the tire.

Tire height = 235 x 75 percent = 176.25 mm (6.94 in)

Then we add twice the tire height to the rim diameter.
2 x 6.94 in + 15 inches = 28.9 in (733.8 mm)

This is the unloaded diameter; as soon as any weight is put on the tire, the diameter will decrease.

So in this case, the Nitto is 31.44" in height and the stock tire is 31.28" in height.

P280/60R18
280 x 60% = 168mm = 6.72"
2 x 6.72 + 18 = 31.44"

P255/70R17
255 x 70% = 178.5mm = 7.14"
2 x 7.14 + 17 = 31.28" is 31.28

Glad I found something so simple to help me on tire numbers (I'm very tire number-challenged ;-)

Bajabenedik, you're correct in your numbers, only vToe's stock tires are 275/65 18's which make the stockers 32.1 inches tall.

Toyo 285-60-18 Open Country AT's 31.48 overall diameter

I run my Nitto 285/60R18's at 35psi per the recommendation of Discount Tire. Size is one thing, the LOOK is another! Enjoy them!
