Power steering failure in reverse after engine off
Ran into a problem today that I wondered if anyone else has experienced.
Pulled into a parking space, went in store. When we returned, my wife was driving, started backing out, tried to turn wheel, couldn't. I tried helping her turn the wheel [twof of us at it] finally got it turned and started forward, steering returned to normal.
Went into another store later in the day, same problem. both of us had to work the steering wheel to get the wheels to turn so we could get out of lot.
At home we were able to back up ok into our spot. For grims, I told my wife to turn it off, then start it and try to back up and turn the wheel. Impossible.
I guess another trip to repair is required unless someone has any ideas.
Quality is not Ford's # 1 priority I guess, at least not with our truck.

Let me know how that goes. I was off roading and noticed I had a hard time turning the wheels and I though it was cause I was up to the bumpers in snow. Maybe It was something similar, but I haven't noticed it since.
Could be...
The only time you're experiancing this is while backing out of a parking space?? If so, I think it's safe for me to assume you (or your wife) may have your foot on the brake pedal??
I don't know if newer model super duties still have this problem or not, but while sitting at idle in my 2001 super duty it's almost impossible to turn the steering wheel if you have the brake pedal pressed. It was a common problem on the 01's due to vaccum routing or something. I have no clue if Ford resolved this problem. If not, the problem could have carried over to the new F150.
For a quick test you may crank your truck up, put it in drive, press the brake pedal and try turing the steering wheel. If it turns easily, just disregard my post.

power steering pump
Service says it the power steering pump.
Of course, they don't stock them so it's another trip to get it fixed. But at least they found the cause.
So far, I'm not overly impress with Ford quality.
Toyota's I've had in the past never saw the inside of a garage, and this truck is doing it's share, and it's liking it.
